Prospective buyer... few questions
Prospective buyer... few questions
I have been lurking on here for a few years, and finally want to dive in and grab an 07/08 G35 sedan.
I'm coming from an 02 Atlima 3.5, and have a few questions:
I'm coming from an 02 Atlima 3.5, and have a few questions:
- Do these cars have issues with the timing chains/tensioners? This is something I don't want to run into. Has anyone got into the higher (90-120K mi range) yet?
- Do these cars consume oil?
- I know how to identify a car with 4WAS, and heard it was an option and not part of the sport package, is this true? It's something I don't want to have on the car but want a sport...
- But I read a few auto mag reviews that said sport package Gs were "too rough" a ride. My Altima rides pretty stiff and don't want to go much harsher than that. The multispoke rims (not the ten spokes) I thought were only for sport package Gs, but at a dealer this weekend I saw one with these wheels and no "S" badge. What's up with that? They had two like that.
- Do all Gs come with bluetooth/auxillary input for an iPod? How much better is the "rolling studio" sound system and how do I identify this on a G?
- Do Gs come without sunroofs? I would rather not have one, but haven't come across any that don't have one. Is this standard?
1) No probs with timing chains so far as i have seen or read, a few have run over 90k here and will chime in.
2) Not that i have heard of, mine has been going string with no oil consumption AT ALL!
3) Yes, separate option
4) I dont think the S is that rough, S with 4was is a bit stiff though but i like it., the dealer might have swapped the rims for the previous owners, a friend of mine also got the journey with sports rim for no extra charge by negotiating with the dealer
5) No, not familiar with "rolling studio"
6) You can get one without sunroof, but will be a tough find in the used market i reckon
Hope this helps

to eliberate on 4.
I don't think you will be complaining about ride stiffness if coming from an altima at all. If you compare to a lexus or acura though, it may seem a little rough.
I like the way the suspension feels. Very sporty, but u still feel like your in a luxury car. Not a evo/stang/STI/etc.

- Nope
- Nope
(the HR's are much better than the DE's in both regard)
- 4WAS is an option on the sport.
- It's hardly a comparison, but my suspension modded 5.5 gen Maxima had a stiffer ride than the G when it was OEM. It also handled better. Now with coilovers on the G, i'd say they're about equal except that the G can handle mid-corner bumps with much more grace because of the IRS.
Journey's could be had with the Tire & Wheel performance package that came with the Sport package.
- 07's had RCA inputs, 08's had iPod inputs/control. "Rolling Studio" a.k.a Studio on Wheels, IMHO, is a very good premium OEM system and sounds quite a bit better and balanced than the stock Journey audio system. SOW came with the Premium package. IIRC, you can tell if the car has Premium package when you see "A" on all the door window switches (for Auto up/down).
