Protective plastic for front end and hood? [clear bra]

Hi all,

Has anyone had anything done like what is depicted in the link below? I think I've seen this kind of protection on an Audi rental I had about a year back.

If you have had it done, how does the plastic hold up? Does it chip or get scratched? How does it affect the paint beneath it over the long term? Does it maintain a consistently see through appearance with no discoloration?

If it does what I think it does it seems like a no brainer to protect the front end of the car against chips and rocks.

I have heard mixed review on these clearbras...some like them and swear by them, while othe0sr hate them.....honestly, depending on your budget, i would tell you to have a reputable body shop put down a few extra layers of clear coat in the spots you were going to have the clearbra installed. Over time the clearbra can begin to get nast and grip onto wax residue around the edges, but the clear coat will not. I would suggest doing your front bumper, hood, and mirrors.

its a clear bra a very effective long lasting cover to protect your paint, the only downside is if you plan to save a few $$ and get it applied only on half the hood, which looks funny.

top quality clear protections do not chip or get scratched that easily, i have some on my FX for the past 5 yrs i guess and it has been flawless with no discoloration or anything and looks as good as new, the only reason every person does not get this is the price imo.

Technically u could just wash but i apply turtles ICE wax on top which is perfect for the clear as it gives it a layer of extra protection from sap etc and adds shine without leaving any residue or stains

Wow, great info! Thanks. If price is the only issue but I do away with chips and scratches, seems like a no brainer despite cost. I'd pay that much in detailing every once in a while anyway.

I think this should be standard on new cars. Since the industry went with the ****ty paint or at least on some of the higher end cars should be standard.
You won't regret it. However as others were saying get a full hood. If you just get partial I can tell you right now the first rock will hit your car would be just half inch above the clear bra just to **** you off.

Yeah for sure. I figure the entire front bumper, hood and side view mirrors should be done.

I will never own a new car without a clear bra. My last 3 cars have it installed, and I love it.

Kool brings up a good point. Doing all fenders would be prudent if it protects against minor scrapes from crappy parallel parkers? How about absent minded ladies who's purses scrape a door? Does this stuff protect the finish against that kind of minor abuse?

If so I'd do it on the entire car...

Yes it does prtect against all those things, the top quality clears like 3M are actually pretty thick but require a pro or a patient diy to install. I reckon cost is perhaps the only reason ppl wont do the whole car lol

So people keep mentioning cost being high. What kind of cost are we talking about?

Around here, the front bumper and up to 1/2 the hood and front fenders will set one back about $400. My guess is the entire car will be in the $1500 range, about the same for a full body vinyl wrap.

This is what I ended up doing, my bumper was a wreck from the first owner it was just riddled with chips all over the bumper and grille. I had the bumper repainted and got the midnight grille then installed venture shield on the bumper, hood, fenders, grille and side mirrors. I have to say I won't own another car without it! Not a single mark anywhere on the film and there is no sign of orange peel at all. Just make sure that you get it installed somewhere where they know what they are doing. A buddy of mine has venture shield as well but sticks out like crazy when mine you really have to look for to see.
