Quick 'n Easy Rear Quarter Window Air Leak Fix

Hats off to "financeman" on MyG37 for the idea!

This is rather simple, and just like all my other Q n' E posts, this write-up will take longer to read than to actually do the procedure.

Although there’s a TSB out for this (ITB07-004), it does entail bringing your car in to the dealership and having them pretty much dismantle the rear door so they can insert some foam in the area. Here’s a quicker, cheap and easy way to DIY…

What you’ll need:

* A small flathead screwdriver, or just your nails/finger
* Permatex flowable silicone windshield and glass sealer

The DIY is quite simple.

1) Locate the solid rear quarter glass on the side you notice the air leak when cruising over any appreciable speed. The leak will be in the general area of the bend, right at the apex for the most part. When you're driving, it will sound like it's coming from the B-Pillar.

2) On each side of the inner weatherstrip (below the chromed areas), bend it enough so you can insert the sealant nozzle. You can do this with your nails or a small flathead. Apply the sealant.

3) You will want to apply the sealant on both sides of the strip, one that touches the glass, the other that touches the chromed area.

Wipe off any excess, wait for an hour to set and within a few hours you’re good to go (max of 12 hours for full cure).

On to the pix! Keep in mind this is the driver side door, to help you with orientation.

This is what the sealant looks like.

Bend the inner part, it was hard for me to do this while taking a picture of it, but it’s easy to bend. This is the part you bend that touches the glass.

And the part you bend that touches the chrome piece.

This is the length of the section (give or take another inch at the top and bottom) where sealant was applied, again inside the inner part that touches the glass and the outer part that touches the chrome piece.

nice DIY for those who have missed out on the TSb or those who still have the issue even after the dealer applied the TSB, good share indeed.
