Bucking/Surging under throttle - Help

So today, driving home, car fully warmed up (been driving for 15 minutes at this point). I give it a bit of gas (1/3 throttle or so), it responds until about 3200 rpm, then dies. Then it picks up again, then dies. No VDC lights, no CEL's - nothing.

I put it in manual mode, tried again, same thing. VDC off, same thing. Doesn't matter if it's first, second or third, part throttle, full throttle, it just dies around 3200 rpm for 1-2 seconds, picks up again, then dies again. No CEL.

Not sure what could be going on here, but it's definitely not normal.

Any input? Car idles and drives perfectly fine at lower throttle and at tip in. Car is a 2008 G35XS (Auto of course). 40k miles.

Is the car changing gears at weird intervals? up or down?

From what i understand if you car is refusing to go above 3200rpm your car might have entered "limp" mode due to some malfunction such as CEL or over heating, over revving or such.... usually restarting your car takes care of it if its nothing serious.

Must get it checked out if it happens again, just drive staright to the dealership since its still under warranty

The car drive just fine - no odd up or down shifts. I did a restart and it occurred right after as well. Feels much like when you hit a fuel cut.

No over revving anytime recently (or ever to my recollection). Temp gauge has been rock solid. I'll try again tomorrow and see how it reacts.

Seems to be gone today (a bit to slick to really push it). The only thing I can think of is it went in to limp mode for some reason.

My only guess is perhaps the VDC went too crazy or something since I was spinning around in a parking lot (snow/ice) a bit before hitting the main roads. When I turned the VDC off, it was still cutting in.

^no i think his car was just spinning cause of the snow since he has the RWD S with im guessing the summer tires(if he went with the same tires as OEM when he changed).

@cwepruk that might explain it actually, just hope it doesnt happen again, if it does, do report back.

with VDC turned off, the light will still come on under those conditions but, the computer control will not interfere as it would with VDC turned on.

I wasn't doing donuts, just needed to get on it a bit to clear an intersection or two. Running Conti DWS's on an AWD.

It happened again on the way home today. I think it starts with aggressive DVC intervention. But it ran fine on the way to work, during my lunch trip but went into serious limp mode now and almost wouldn't move forward - like the ECU just said no and closed the throttle.

Great.

Can't believe an ECU reset didn't fix this issue for you... Better call an exorcist

try unhooking the neg terminal and pump the brake pedal hard a few times before hooking it back. If this doesn't remedy the problem, resetting the ECU is your next step. The process only takes a total of one minute or so but, it is a precise process preformed from the driver seat.
