I did read what you wrote and frankly I do not really care. I'm not ignorant to what you wrote and I do understand where your coming from however I have different view points on things.

I'm just trying to help a fellow driver avoid being a cop magnet, that's all. Most people have radar detectors are speeders. I'll admit I do speed a lot, but I try to minimize cop's attention by not having things blatantly show on the windshield. I did get pulled over once FOLLOWING another car going the same speed, but the cop decided to pull me over.

I immediately took my radar detector off before he could notice and let me off with a warning. He was using LIDAR, which is impossible to detect by radar detectors.

Cops really hate it when you have a radar detector, whether it is legal or not to use them.

Lol I understand what your saying and I didn't mean any offense on my last post. The V36 sedan is not even the biggest cop magnet on the road, cops don't look twice at me. I have a bit of a speeding problem too, but I can control myself. The radar is there to keep me in check if a cop were to be there.

Cops do hate radar detectors, but they have no say in them at all. Laser jammers are even legal in my state as well.

yo, i used to have an X50 in my IS350 and got pulled over so many times that i ended up throwing it out. One of the times a cop just said, "you know those things barely work right" and he even let me go. Honestly you guys are just thinking way too much, let the poor guy have his radar if he wants it. IDK how all of you guys are such professionals, but he isn't even voiding his warranty either. Like are you serious, just cause he tapped into the mirror power you think his warranty would be void? Some of you guys lack common sense. My Lexus IS350 had full exhaust, coilovers, rims, sound system, repainted roof, the whole sha bang. Plus I was a little 17 year old going to the dealership, they could have hassled me if they wanted to but every single time I never got a warranty claim denied. Once they even replaced my suspension bushings on an aftermarket coilover system. I guess it's at the discretion of the dealer but the LAW is that unless they can PROVE that your modification directly caused the malfunction your warranty is intact.

And stop generalizing the way cops think or act. DO what you want, if a cop pulls you over cause he sees a radar so be it. take the ticket, pay it off and move on. Your logic SHOULD be "well i just got a ticket and it's probably cause the cop stereotyped me for having a radar detector, but i'm just going to laugh at all the times that it's saved my ***"

done deal guys stop whiiiining.

Way to start causing more problems again. The argument was already over for over 2 weeks. You don't need to bring it up again. Think what you want, but the dealer technically can void your warranty since you are doing something to the mirror what it isn't designed to do. I'm not going to continue arguing this point.

My point wasn't about how cops stereotype- it was about minimizing your chances of getting a ticket from cops. It's never a guarantee, but as I said before, I won't try to push my luck by having a cop see my radar detector after pulling me over for speeding.

The thread is old and dead- stop trying to revitalize it by whining more.

It's not really just about the warranty either- my point is anytime down the road after your warranty expires, you may cause the mirror to break quicker. Just my two cents. Don't take me seriously if you don't want to. It is like redlining your engine everyday for the next couple years- the engine will not last any longer- it may break quicker somewhere down the line. I'm not talking about how this is drastically breaking your mirror, but operating your mirror out of spec may cause malfunctioning later.

BTW why do you think modded cars generally don't last as long as OEM? I've modded my computer many times- and it would never last as long as a computer built from OEM and left alone.

And you are right about radar being useless. Radar detectors are useless against IO and QT's...which is what most cops do nowadays anyways in the Northeast. My Escort Redline never really saved me from any cops- it only alerted me to those few lazy ones that you can clearly see down the road. If a cop really wants to pull you over, your radar detector is pretty much useless. My real saves were from using rabbits instead of my radar detectors. I probably saved myself 5 times in the course of last year because of that. You don't need a radar detector to save you from cops. Just drive smart and try not to get noticed.

no the dealer can't technically void your warranty. read a book for once. perhaps if your mirror/homelink malfunctions but the warranty as a whole? No. Look up the Magnussen-Moss Warranty act buddy.

if you're talking about minimizing your chances then don't speed/leave the house for that matter.

Hey I've gotten warranty work done on my car many times on my Infiniti and Lexus cars- and sometimes, they'll deny warranty work because of something stupid. Infiniti refused to fix my squeaking brakes. After they resurfaced the rotors, my brakes got even louder and they refused to make it right.

Lexus is better at honoring warranties than Infinitis.

I'm not saying they won't TRY to not cover it. It's all about knowing your rights. Obviously it's more time/price conscious to just say no whenever they can, you just have to know what they can and cannot do.
