i have considered integrating the stock camera into my system, since i have one thats been sitting in my basement since last june. it just wont have the distance markers or anything like that on the screen but the picture is very good. but as zoop said it would just be me converting the harness to an RCA and plugging it into my existing system since there is no wiring for the stock camera on a base model like mine.

for anyone who is looking for a quality backup camera get the BOYO 425!!! I installed it last night.. I am amazed at how well it works.. extremely clear picture day and night and you need little to no light to make the night vision flawless.. honestly this thing works better than the OEM camera!!!! I have dark tail lights (including the reverse area) and I have LED reverse lights which makes for extremely little light output and let me tell you, that tiny bit plus the red glow from the tail lights makes it seem bright as day behind the car through the camera.

I know this was an old post, but would anyone mind explaining how to install the BOYO 425 license plate camera? Is it something that a basic DIY person can perform or do you need a professional?

A local car audio shop did it for me, I did not feel comfortable doing it without a clear DYI and having no experience with this sort of work myself. Basically, they ran the camera RCA cable through the back all the way to my armrest RCA connections (had to drill a small hole). You need the forbidden mod to make it work though.

Since then, I bought a chrome trim for an OEM backup cam and a Sanyo camera with the distance markings thinking of replacing the Boyo. However, my Boyo license plate camera works so well picture wise, is at the level of my bumper - that when combined with the ultrasonic sensors it makes parking in very tight spots pretty easy. In fact, when I drove a 2011 G37x fully loaded loaner recently, the moving distance markers (while cool looing) did not feel as intuitive for parking as the Boyo camera because of OEMs higher vantage point. When used for parking purposes (which I use it for 90% of the time) - lower is better.

I actually wanted the lip spoiler that comes stock from the dealer, i would rather have that then the license plate frame (always thinking if someone will just screw it out. I dont really mind the good picture you guys say that the boyo has. so if i want to get oem camera, i would need the lip spoiler with cutout for camera and a sanyo brand camera? Also, why is it necessary to do the forbidden mod if it will only be engaged when in reverse?

I have my Boyo installed with anti-theft bolts, and it is the thin-framed version. Unless one looks very closely can't tell it's a license plate camera. This thread discusses various install options. I believe you can tap for power on any wire that is only engaged in reverse, and the forbidden mod is not the only way to trigger the RCA mode (but was the one my installer used).
