Saying So Long...

After three years I'm saying good bye to my G in about 2 weeks. My lease is up march 1st and I decided not to purchase at end.

She's been an amazing car and this is one of the best forums I've been on.

Thanks to all who post and have been helpful.

I'm buying a 2011 Jeep Wrangler - and have my mods already planned. They are CONSIDERABLY cheaper than most everything I've done to the G.

Here's a pic of 90% of what I'm doing...minus all chrome. I'm chipping the engine/tranny and dropping it 2". The new interiors are insane nice (1000% better than my 2008 Wrangler) - and they have 90% amenities - power everything, voice navi, hard drive, rear cam, etc... I'm tired of dealing with Los Angeles roads and valets and the constant fixes I'm forced to deal with here. Also a pic of my old GC SRT8.

Plus - I'm getting 5k off a new Sahara and great financing.

If I don't sell by March 15 - I'll be pulling off all the GT Spec braces, both front and rear spoilers, Blinker Mirror Covers, caliper covers, etc. and will be putting them in the market place. If you know anyone in So Cal who wants a good G for 25...let them know.

Thanks again - and I will miss the G. If I move to Dallas next year - I'll keep the Jeep and either buy a G37s coupe or a 370Z for a second car.

Jeep wrangler Sahara was the worst car on consumer reports and i have read many other articles about it having many problems

http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-bargain...r-buying-tips/

Was last years model and hopefully they have better luck with the 2011's

Good luck!

I've had 11 Jeeps since 1997 - the only one I had any issues with was the SRT8 - and mainly due to an accident where I was Tboned and the ins. would not total it. That led me to the G.

I'm all over the two main JK forums...so I know what I'm getting in to - and am still following other forums as well.

I still have the sunroof creaking on mine - no fix.

There has never been - and never will be - a perfect car.

I just buy - mod - enjoy. When I'm done...I move on.

Kind of like my women.

heh heh

So you're getting a wrangler, and dropping it 2"? Isn't that considered blasphemy?

Also, if Jeeps are so great(I do like them myself), why 11 of them in 13 years? That seems wildly excessive.

WOW! I never heard that before, going from a G to a Wrangler. That's something new.

Yes...it's a bit excessive but I've had a total of 44 cars, and 6 motorcycles. You should see my Facebook Garage Gallery! But - at 46 yrs., I'm slowing down a bit. Here's my rationale:

I've almost always had a Jeep as a second car until 2009. I loved the new body style, but could not deal with the cheap interior- and at the time needed to cut back.

I also have 2 dogs - 130lb Rhodesian Ridgeback and a 110lb Dobie. The G is not best for transporting them to canyon or beach for play. I also mountain bike. G is not the best.

Yes - dropping a Jeep is blasphemy - but I always do what I want - period. Example - some of you like my G, some not. I practice to each his own with support. This is perfect for handling and city driving - which I do 90% of the time. The tune I'm getting and drop improve mileage that will at least equal the G.

i kept changing Jeeps as I went between 4 and 2 door - depending on situation, as well as changes in body style. Even if I kept the G - the second it got updated, I'd be out of it. Just a personal thing.

Love the G - but here are my stats: 300+ Hp, Average Speed in LA - 14mph. Average MPG - 13.9. I have NEVER gotten over 200 miles per a tank in my city driving. Ever. $600 payment versus $400 and I own, versus lease.

Mods/Stuff on G over 3 yrs...almost 10k. Not including weekly hand washing and every other month hand detailing.

I have gone thru 3 sets of tires (staggered rims), and have replaced all 4 wheels at least once - none of which was my doing. Zero real mechanical issues - but still have the minor annoyances we all have with these cars. And I rarely truly get to enjoy it like those of you who live in better roaded cities.

The biggest reason is, per our Mayor last month, who "pledged to plug 10,000 potholes over the weekend". Total BS. The LA roads are completely disintegrating. Potholes as wide as 6' x 6' and 1.5' deep.

I'm tired of obsessing and need a break. Actually - the 2011's are INSANELY quiet. Fiat is making big changes, and Chrysler is expected to make a profit in 2011 of over 800 million. Not so bad.

Plus - My total modding to the Jeep is under 3k - and that includes $750 CilaJet'ing the paint on it. And Jeeps have one of the most active forums out there. Altho they can be very opinionated - e.g. me not "lifting" it 2-5 inches. heh heh.

Just so you guys understand.

ParkStr8 I have never been a Jeep person, but everytime I see a the exact same black one around town you posted I can't help but stare. That thing is just stank! I love the stance, and it looks like it'd be a blast to mod. Enjoy the new ride!!!

Thanks Baileyt35!

The 2012's Wranglers will have a new V6 with about 300hp mated to 6 speed auto. With the torque that will make them pretty fast. I call mine a Street Jeep.

And they are wildly popular here in LA - for all the reasons I mentioned above.

I don't have anything against jeeps outside of them being under powered for the last couple years. They need to put the Hemi in em or at least the 4.7 V8. Oh well. I don't think I would lower it if I got one. Maybe a leveling kit to raise the front but def not lowered. But to each his own. Good luck with the new ride

Love the old Jeeps and the newer Rubicons. I had a 75 CJ-5 that I put a AMC 401V8 that was punched a bit to 417ci and a Ford T18 granny tranny along w/ detroit locker and 3" springs along w/ 35" ground Hawgs. Of course gas was a buck fifty then, lol.
Enjoy your new Jeep, they are a lot of fun.

Jeeps rock, period lol. Im a little biased, I have a 88 YJ im fixing up, and wife drives the 02 GC limited, that thing is pretty much unstopable. I almost bought a 2010 Unlimited, mountain edition, but i just couldnt deal with the lack of power on my 70 mile daily commute of varied types of roads that the G eats up. I may still pick one up when to 2012, pentastar powered JKs hit the lot. From what I hear, the 2011 will be a short run, while they gear up for the new engine. One thing I love about Jeeps, there are more ways to mod and customize them then any other vehicles, its amazing the amount of aftermarket stuff that's out there.

See what I mean...great guys on this forum.

CB - power is kind of low - but it's also kind of a non issue in LA. I came to the G from a S60R, tuned to 350 and 325 - had an SRT8 with 450hp and 425lbf - great for the 100 years between lights. Crappy on highway. So while some say I will miss the HP - even the G was a little underwhelming compared to my old two. But I loved them all the same- each is unique.

The JK has several tunes avail that flash it for more hp and better shift points...and all cost under $300. The Pentastar should rock - but it'll also be the first year - and I NEVER buy first year of anything. Learned that lesson several times -the most recent was my 2007 Wrangler I factory ordered and was the first black Sahara off the line.

Thanks for the words and I'll still be lurking around here.

I really wanted an Jeep SRT8 6 months ago. Speed seemed amazing but they were pricey and the horrible gas mileage and traveling to and from work..not worth it at all for me.
