Advice for new 07 G35

Hi all-

I just bought an 07 g35 sedan in great shape with about 34k mi. It's my first Infiniti, and I'm having a blast driving it. I wanted to get some tips on possible upgrades I should consider. I was thinking maybe upgrading the air intake/filter, looking for sleek way to hookup my iphone 4 to charge and play music (currently using a charging cable and an audio cable since a2dp is not supported which is just too many cables going everywhere), and was also thinking it might be nice to add a small powered sub because the existing system is a little lacking in kick. Any recomendedations on these items or suggestions other things I should consider would be much appreciated!

Study the intake and exhaust specs carefully. If you like the way they look and like the way they sound, that's fine, I'm not knocking anyone who wants to spend their money that way. But, don't expect any useful performance gains. The claims they make are usually inflated and the gains that you do get will likely be in rpm ranges that you'll rarely get into. I've got an 07 X and I have no plans to spend any money under the hood.

Before you do anything I think you need to evaluate how you plan on using the car. Will you be tracking it? If so, brakes and tires should get your money. Are you going ghetto? Then springs and lower kits. Dressing it up? Then go with wheels, debadging, tints and other bling.

I think it is a great car. Mine is a daily driver and occasional weekend cruiser. If I were going to spend money it would be for better tires and brakes (just pads, rotors and lines). If I needed a little bling under the hood, then I might put a tower brace in there.

Thanks for the tips. I think the GTM TT kit might be a bit out of my budget for now. Any thoughts on the iPhone hookup?

Basics and beauty

The car is already a beast... go with some basic mods starting with the exterior. Some "deep dish" 3 piece (or look alike) wheels are nice, but get what YOU want. Tint adds sex appeal along with a nice lowering kit. That in itself will also add "some" handling benefits (lower center of gravity).

You don't need performance suspension parts unless you don't have the G35s. The factory stuff is more than adequate for entry level until you can save up the $$. If you've got some $$, go for an exhaust kit, headers, and intake system (choose wisely). I prefer Stillen only because I've seen it at EVERY Infiniti dealer in WA and OR. Saving up for mine. Alltogether either way, you're looking at about 3-4K.

Tires are important too. Believe it or not, the Korean made Hankooks, Nankang, or some Riken Raptors (Discount Tire/made by BF goodrich) are the best bang for the buck for those looking for great performance at a even better price. For those that got $$ Dunlop Direzza's or Michelins get you sticky. Google "Tyre Review Uk" and you'll get REAL world stats on REAL world owners grading all brands.

To get really decent tires at DIRT cheap prices (40K Z rated performance), there's a company in Tacoma that sells wheels and tires. For 245/45/ZR18's and 225/50/ZR18's they go for $110 and $100 EA mounted and balanced + tax. That's $420 + tax for the entire car.

Sweet deals on 225/45/ZR18 SUNEW YS618 95W (Entry Sport from China (Michelin manufactured). DOT approved with current date stamps. Warranties all his wheels and tires. Ask for Mark (owner) Universal Tires & Wheels.
