Can someone tell me what color a brand new brake fluid is supposed to be?
I am doing research for the items i should consider doing on my 30k service, being that the dealer is trying to rape my wallet. i looked at the belts (as per the instructions found here, very useful btw) and determined its not ready to be replaced because theres no wear at all and i'll prolly do it at 45k even if theres no wear.
As for the brakes, i was considering a flush, but i dont know what the color of a brand new infiniti brake fluid is supposed to be. The current fluid isnt dark, but it does have a slight yellow tint almost like a watered down iced tea. i know some brands have a light yellow color to their fluids (like that of new cooking oil), while others are completely clear.. Theres no infiniti dealerships around where i am, and i looked all over the place for some images of the fluid without any luck..
Do you guys think i am going overboard considering a brake flush already only at 30k? manual states nothing about when the brakes and power steering should be flushed
. my guess is the dealers answer will always be to replace it.

from what i remember the fluid new from factory was very light yellow and much like you described, also i dont think that there is any need to be changing your brake fluid at 30k unless you have taken your car to a track a few times and driven it hard.
As long as it's clear, the color should not matter (Brake fluid commonly has a very light yellow tint, but can also come in blue or green).
If you can't see through the fluid (i.e. cloudy), then it's time to replace.
Although, once you take it to the track, you'll notice that the fluid will still be clear, but it will no longer be in the same state as it was when new.

checked the brake fluid, definitely does NOT need replacing.... its clear and cleaner than i have ever expected
one less item to service.
BUT,
my power steering fluid is brown... wtf? its not black yet, but is definitely brown. this car only has 30k on it, and the fluid is less than 3 years old..... isnt brown power steering fluid indicative of serious problems? or do all power steering fluids get to this color around 30k?
hows the color for the rest of you guys?
