When do you change spark plugs?
When do you change spark plugs?
hey guys,
i'm just over 170,000kms on a 2007 g35s, do you think i should change my plugs? the car feels good, the gas consumption seems ok (about 500-530km on a full tank, 50% highway driving). are there any indicators that will show a potential bad plug?
could having a bad plug cause harm to our car?
would you guys trust a regular mechanic (as opposed to an infiniti or nissan dealer) to install new plugs for you? is there anything computer related that takes place during the install that they may not have access to?
dealer quoted me like $450 to install new plugs when the parts are like $20 a plug. their labor rates are way too high.

i would say around 105,000miles thats about where you are in kms (i think) so its a good time to change out if youve never done them before.
As for the install, its just like any other car so any reputable mechanic should be able to do this job fairly easily, as long as you get the right plugs that are gaped properly(i think almost all top quality iridum plugs are pre-gaped now but not sure). No computer or gizmo needed
A price of $200 for labor and top quality plugs is a good price to pay to a local mechanic, just make sure they dont over tighten it.

^Yes you are... but honestly there is no need to replace them so early... I always go about 100 K for the first set of sparks... and then 75 - 80 after (assuming I keep the cars to 200K... which I usually try to do)
3lpaisa - don't waste your money. if you want to feel better then pull a couple out, ensure they are not fouled and there is no oil in your plug-wells but i wouldn't really consider replacement at your mileage.
