getting tune

ok so im getting a tune on my car in two weekends. ive got no idea what to expect but ive told them i am looking to get better gas milage. anyone ever do this?

djfarhan 03-06-2011 05:18 PM

where u going? and for how much

infinitig35 03-06-2011 05:22 PM

Get new spark plugs?

It mainly depends on if you have done anything to the car. If you are getting a tune on a stock car you are wasting your money, IMO. Also if you plan on going in and getting tuned for better gas mileage i hope your not hoping to see any gains performance wise. You will probably end up losing a little power. My oppinion is that if you want to see performance gains should wait until you do a few mods to your car (exhaust, intake, hfc or test pipes) and then get a tune.

And since your from MA you should probly check out the northeast sub forums here and add ur name so we can get a discount as a few of us MA ppl are waiting to get tuned when its warmer

the OP in another thread already mentioned that hes running stock and wants to gain mpg and not interested in performance gains if i remember right. When u go there make sure u reiterate the fact taht u are interested in increased mpg and not a performance oriented tune. not sure if the minimal gains will be worth the $$ though but ur call.

ya its a tune for milage, im not worried about power, its just my winter beater/everyday car. i plan on putting well over 300k miles on this car. if i gain 2 mpg id make my money back in no time, and ive talked to other people about tunes theyve got and it seem like 8-9mpg increase isnt far fethced

kool_yaar 03-07-2011 06:46 PM

^ wow if the G is your winter beater.everyday car what your weekend car?? lol
btw i highly doubt that 8-9mpg gain on our cars, but 2-3mpg max is possible with loss in power imo. keep us posted

Should've jus bought a Civic.

GryDe06 03-07-2011 07:25 PM

what a average price for tune up on Gs?

drivethefive 03-07-2011 09:03 PM

I'd say if you were that concerned about mileage you shoulda bought a Civic or a frickin Prius lol! But hey, at least you have a damn nice "beater" car!

freakta 03-08-2011 12:35 PM

i needed an awd car... and im a nissan person at heart, so the choice was simple.

ive got a few other cars and a motorcycle, and who says your winter beater cant be nice

drivethefive 03-08-2011 08:46 PM

hey man more power to ya, makes sense now that you said you needed an awd ride. I wish I was in the same postion to have more than one car :(

freakta 03-08-2011 10:58 PM

dont be they are all too much money and are a huge headache. if i could get everything in one ride id stay with one.

my g is my every day
ive got a 600+whp 240sx
a 400+whp cobalt
just got rid of my 1100+whp trans am
still have my 71whp cr500
and my 58whp harley

ill get rid of the 240 and the cobalt when i get my next car, not sure if it will be a ctsv zl1 camaro or factory 5 gtm
but dont worry it will be fast
