I would use the equity in the G to buy the new car, i would save the payment and gas and insurance, about 420 + 100 + 15 = 535/ month

I don't know how much you are spending on a home but I think for most people, $535 is a substantial percentage of their mortgage payment.
Another thing to note (I'm sure you have heard) is that home ownership comes with 'surprise' expenses that you just don't account for the first time around.

fwiw - I agree with everything that dmb4040 did and said above. Our economies would be far better off if more people thought this way.

That 535 a month savings is about the difference in what my rent vs mortage + escrow accts will equal.

Now to make an offer and find a buyer

I am wondering ... If i want to list it on this forum is it allowed? And also where would I post it, I think it would be awesome to find someone local to sell the car (especially since they will get all the printed service records and everything) ...

Any one have an idea which sub forum to list that type of thing...? Don't wanna make the MODS upset.

Thanks again guys for all the advice... even if we dont buy the house, I think selling this will help me start making sacrifices...

We're also looking to buy a house, but no way am I giving up the G (gas mileage be damned). It's paid off but lost a fair bit of its resale as it is getting up there in miles. I might as well keep it for another few years...

You are definitely allowed to post it for sale on Driver.com, (unless you are a dealer). You post here.

or maybe

I have been paying it off a bit extra at a time, so I am in the mid 8's I can use my tax return to pay it off, and then I will have the title, but I think i will try to sell it myself just need to decide how much.

What ever I have left after paying the loan off, I will use to buy a reliable 4 cyl car (might even get a CIVIC since I have the Accord, and the wife doesnt mind either one)

Civis can get some crazy good MPG's

Did any of your body damage result in a Carfax bink? If it shows on Carfax you'll take a decent hit. If your Carfax is clean I'd agree that 21k-23k would be reasonable considering your mileage. With some Carfax issues it could drop another 25%. Good luck w/ whatever you do, and home ownership should be on the front burner, plus it's a great time to buy.

I will run the carfax and see maybe it will show up ... But I plan on pricing it very fair and being upfront and see if someone is interested. You never know ... The house may not happen but i plan on putting some money away for a later day too
