injens cai took on water

So basically after talking about ny problem that just happend to me with a couple omg friends that are mechanics seems that my injen cai have taking in water...

Drove the car turned off on me after a few minutes turned it back on then around 2 3 k rpm she would start jumping...

My car is still under warrenty I plan on taking the intakes out putting the stock ones back in and driving to an infiniti dealer...

Im sorry if this is a repost but is there anything that I should be aware of when I do take it to the dealer...

And I will either get hydrosheilds or stillen gen3

Thank you

in all honesty no one here can tell you whats going to happen for sure, just put in your stock intakes and take it in and if hey ask you can say "no" you didnt mess with the intakes, if its just the MAF sensor then you should be ok, however if there is engine damage due to the CAI sucking in a lot of water into the engine then they will know.

Depends on how much water the intake sucked in, how long after that you tried to run the car etc... water being sucked into the engine CAN cause a piston to break, or bend a rod or break the crankshaft in worse cases. Dont try to start the car again if its hydro locked it will cause damage cause water wont compress in the cambers. First step should be to try the dealer and hope its MAF or some sensor else if they find that the engine has in fact sucked in water and it wont be covered under warranty take it to a local mechanic you know or try the following yourself....

IF the damage is not that serious then the first thing to do should be to take out the spark plugs and try to crank the car for about 5 seconds every 10-15seconds and if the engine has water in it hope that it comes out of the spark plug holes(keep doing until water stops coming out), then put it back do an oil change and hope everything works.

I did this for a friends civic when his CAI sucked in water (reason why i dont buy CAI!) and it actually worked out and we were able to save the engine.

Hope this helps, keep us posted

I like that idea that maclovio's said. Play it dumb and you'll get what you want. Is that the only mod you had on the car?

If the motor's hydrolocked, no amount of "playing dumb" is going to help when they refuse to foot the repair bill.

^exactly, we dont know the extent of the damage but if the water has entered the engine then they will know and they should be able to tell that the intakes were taken off by looking at the screws, besides its impossible to hydro lock the car with stock or SRI intakes unless half your car is submerged under water.

If your engine's truly hydro locked then that sucks I'm sorry. My jetski was hydrolocked after I accidentally submerged it and it was un-repairable. I hope they can do something to help you.

On one hand though this makes me glad I never went for a CAI. I almost did too.

Sucks that this happened to OP. How much water was exposed to the filters? I mean in order to hydrolock your engine, you filters basically need to be submerged in water. It's not that easy to hydrolock your engine. Anyway, this is the main reason I chose the Stillen Gen 3's over the Injen because Injen's filters sit wayyyy too low pointing at the ground.

GL man. I hope everything works out for you. Keep us posted on this pls.

Thanks.

Well thank you guys for all of your help but I got good news.

Went to that place that put in my cai in and I explained to them what happend and they where going to put my stock ones back in.

But first they took off the mfa sensors one of them was wet a thiny bit. So we ended up jet drying it reseting the codes and the car is back to its normal self.

I did end up ordering two hydrosheilds and they will be here tommorow. So hopefully I wont have to deal with this problem again.
