Wow awesome time, Seal! What kind of launch technique did you use?

i put left foot on brake and i launched the car at around 1500rpm i think and i put the transmission in sport mode without shifting it myself

That was a good question about the technique, it does play a big role in good 1/4 timing.
So you just put yours in Sport mode and let the car shift for you? You didn't shift yourself through the gears at all? If you did was it better or worse timing?

I'll be hitting the local track this Saturday with a totally stock 07X. I'll be sure to try several things as it will be my first time running this car.

i didnt try shifting it myself just because de transmission shift a maybe 7500rpm, where the redline is so i don't see how i could possibly do better than a computer..

I hit the track as planned Saturday morning. See my thread for details: Back from the track... :D

Nice time...

The power launch is deff a good way to get the best time but try leaving it in D and see what your time is.

G3Sx 05-01-2011 01:56 PM

I will have to try that next time since things got busy pretty quick with the competition. I would think that leaving in D wouldn't be as efficient because the shifts wouldn't be as firm and therefore would take more time to occur.

edit: just realized you may not have been addressing my post. In any case, I'm curious to find out how letting the car shift in D compares to letting it shift in DS.

i have the same interrogation between D and DS, whats the difference if there is any?

DS shifts faster doesn't it?

Nice to hear our cars get into the 13's so easily.. sweeeeeetness

Listen up!!!

OK PEOPLE LISTEN UP!

Here is the low down on the shifting.... D mode and DS mode shift the same... at the same RPM and the same speed.... about 7200 rpm depending on gear. DS mode down shifts more agressively for you when braking...

Now for drag racing... When in DS mode if you fly down the track you will hit 102-104 in the 1/4 mile BUT! if you leave it in DS mode 3rd gear will only take you to 99-100 mph sooooooo you are having to go into 4th for a split second before the end of the track.... HEre is what I did at the track...

Leave it in DS mode when you launch let it rev up and auto switch to second.. then when its close to going into third use the paddles or stick to throw it in third.. now ride out third all the way to the end as in manual mode 3rd will take you to 106mph. saves a shift and are power band is almost until redline anyway!

my 02!

I was just thinking of a way to do away with the 3-4 shift before crossing the line. Eliminating the shift would definitely improve the ET. If the shift points were to be raised to occur closer to 8k (we all know the HR is perfectly capable of turning at 8k safely) it would have enough revs to get through the traps in 3rd. Even raising just the 3-4 shift point alone would make a difference.
So thanks for the tip. I will definitely try that.
And while I agree that D and DS modes may have identical shift points, I'm still convinced that DS has firmer shifts, which take less time to occur and therefore are more beneficial to a lower ET. I haven't done much reading on these trannies, but I think it would be nice to have a Nissan approved shift kit in my G.

Can anyone else second the D / DS same shift speed? Seems harder & faster with ds for me. (in my head)
