Back from the track...
Back from the track...
I took my totally stock G to the local dragstrip this morning. Best ET was a 13.797 @ 100.01. I found that launching at 2000 RPM in DS yielded the best results. I love how the car stays planted with just a hint of tire squeal off the line. This was a Mustang club private track rental, and the G surprised quite a few of them.
I hot lapped several times, while running very consistent 13.8s.
I didn't get to experiment with shifting as much as I had hoped, since the track announced a payout for best reaction time. The battle was fierce, and running this car for the first time, I didn't know what to expect. I kept redlighting, but was getting progressively better as the morning went on. Finally, I snapped up an .005 and decided to run out for some gas as the cluster mileage range display had been blinking the dreaded "----" since I got to the track. I returned a half hour later to find that no one had beaten my reaction time, and so the battle was on. I figured the longer I stay in it, the better my chances would be to back up my winning spot. The track announcer had a bunch of fun with challenging the Mustang boys to step up and kept saying something to the tune of "here comes the champ, demanding his payout" every time I'd approach the staging area.
So I ended up having a great morning with a total of 20 runs and a $50 payout for best reaction time.
It feels good to finally know what the car is capable of.
In other news, my shifter paddles came yesterday, so I might throw them on this afternoon.
I also had an opportunity to pull over along a back road on the way home to snap a pic of my new vanity plate.

Launching took a little bit of getting used to since I never ran a drive by wire throttle setup before. One thing that may help is to prestage, then get the rpms up and let out of the brake just enough to creep forward to light up the stage light. Otherwise as soon as you stage, you only have as much time to get ready as the car in the opposite lane takes to stage before the tree drops. It was only on my way home that I got a chance to reflect on the details and make mental notes about what to do next time.
I have a feeling my car had the transmission TSB done as I have absolutely no throttle response for the first 10% of pedal travel.
And as far as Mustangs, there are quite a few that my friends and I are always around. I have a V8 T-Bird for a weekend toy, so I'm usually at several Ford events throughout the year.
