Stuck between a rock and a hard place

Hi Everyone-

Hi my name is Chris and I am an ex-moder.. I have been heavily browsing this site for the last week and thought I would say hi.

About 8-10 year ago I was really into moding my cars, but have really just now enjoyed driving a stock nice car. I am coming out of a 2005 Legacy GT that I loved, and am stuck between 2 different G35x's I hope you can help with.

1. A 2007 G35X with 52k on it. It is light blue with a tan interior. The body is in decent shape, but the back bumper was going to be repainted. The steering wheel was chipping (as I have read all about here), and one of the interior door panels was pretty bad. It was a off lease that showed no records of service at any dealer or on car fax. I believe its considered the premium package as it has bluetooth, homelink, auto adjust seats.. (NO NAVI).. I negotiated this car down to $20,400.

2. Same Nissan dealer, has a 2007 G35X with 29k on it. It is the dark gray with a tan/black interior. This body is in much better shape as is the steering wheel. There are a couple of minor scratches on the body, but its used and I can buff them out if the detail shop doesn't. The rims are kind of scuffed, but I am thinking of using them for the winter with some blizzacks and then getting new 18's with nice summer tires. (something stock looking for the rims though, no bling) I believe this car is a base model as it has no bluetooth, homelink or auto adjust seats. They have record of oil changes, but no major service.. clean carfax. This car I negotiated down to $22,000.

Now in your guys professional opinions, which is a better deal? Are either deals? I'm leaning towards the lower mileage, as I'm not really sure how much I would really need the auto adjust seats, bluetooth etc.. I may eventually put in a homelink mirror, but otherwise 20k miles is almost 2 years of driving. To me that seems like the better car.

Sorry for the long first post, I hope you read it all and can give me some honest opinions.

Thanks,

Chris

To me, both seem a bit over priced. You can typically get a low to mid mileage 2007 G35x with Tech|Prem for 22-23k depending on where you are. I'd say keep looking and see what you can find. Check out cars.com and autotrader to get an idea of what you can get with the specs you want.

I'd honestly go with choice number 2. It has a service record and I'm pretty sure you can install some of those items for quite a few dollars less than what the stealership will offer them for in purchasing in higher mileage vehicle. As far as the wheels I'm pretty sure you can negotiate them down a little more or advise them you would like the wheels to be reconditioned.

Either way good luck and also welcome to the boards.

Thanks for the replies! When searching on cars.com this is what I get :http://www.cars.com/for-sale/searchr...RM&enableSeo=1

Looking down that list, the best car I see is still the one I am getting.. Anything near the price I am getting has 50k on it for mileage.. Do you see something I don't there? I want to be sure to get the best deal possible!

Thanks,

Chris

To add, I'd really prefer a 07+ as I like the 2nd gen.

Try autotrader...

I got my 07 x sedan with 36k miles, fully loaded with some very very minor fixes for 20k. Keep your eyes peeled and just keep looking. You'll end up finding a better deal somewhere.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I've been looking a lot, although for a short period of time (a week), and this is the best I have seen to date.. Understand I can't really go private seller as I have a trade in.

I know there might always be that one deal that is much better, but am I getting screwed, or does #2 sound fair? I have checked Autotrader and cars.com and found nothing with lower mileage at a lower price. My zip is 06790 if you want to take a look 40-50 miles around me.

Thanks again for the feedback.

yeah, i'd definitely get the lower mileage one; less wear and tear. do you plan to mod the car other than new wheels? bc if you plan to drop it, the X is a bit of a pain, from what i've seen and heard.

I've been looking at drop stuff for the x, which is what I have. There's a bunch of guys here that have dropped their x's with NO problems. It all depends on what you want to do.

Hi and again thanks.

No I don't really plan to mod to much, and I really wanted the X for the AWD and new england winters. Coming from a legacy gt I couldn't go back to a RWD. At this time I'd like to say just new wheels, but I was also reading about adding paddle shifters etc.. so I may say one thing and do another.. I certainly don't want to lower it at this time as it will be a daily driver and I don't want to sacrifice ride quality at this time.

regarding ride quality, unless you max out your future coilovers, a nice ride could be had w/ a modest drop. DOET. haha gl w/ the purchase, man.

^whs, there are so many configurations to drop your x using coupe springs, 370z springs, even the sedan springs from an S. With a modest drop you won't be sacrificing much at all in terms of ride quality. I've been so hesitant about dropping mine but so many people have been successful at it and have not suffered ride quality. Mine is also a daily driver and I'll be dropping it a bit very soon.

I'd get the second choice. Lower miles, less interior damage, and most of all record of service actually taken place. IMO I would never buy a leased (or a loaner car) from any of my local dealership for any brand of cars, simply because the people here (Hawaii) sucks at maintaining their vehicle, and for probably wouldn't give a damn about putting the right gas lol

but n e ways, I'd go w the second.

As others have suggested, keep looking. It's not like you need a car now, since you have one. For reference, I've been looking for the right G35 since Last June, and finally found it in Nov, then i drove 12 hrs to get it. Same as you no private sales since I had a trade. Unless there's something you're not disclosing, a week would hardly qualify for "have been looking". Be patient and you will find a better deal.
