Magnetic Oil Plug
#16
DO you really think your bearings, rings, crank, cams, gears, valve springs, timing chain, cylinder sleeves, etc. etc., essentially all the wearing surfaces of your engine, ARE ALL ALUMINUM ???

I think having the convenience of a Fumoto valve makes any potential gain of magnetic plug unattractive. I think as long as you change filter/oil regularly, you will be fine. With the fumoto, never have to worry about that copper washer or torquing it properly. It makes changing oil a breeze and a lot less messy.

To each, his own.
I have never been bothered by the process of jacking the car up, dropping the belly pan, crawling under, and changing oil the old fashioned way. It's sort of like a nice bonding time with my car. It gives me a chance to look her over completely and check for any sign of leaks, suspension/steering/tires or other issues. If I didn't do that routinely, I'd feel like I was neglecting her; so the quick drain valve would not be more attractive at all.
Also, as it has already been mentioned, the valve is not magnetic, so I actually lose that warm, fuzzy feeling of knowing I'm capturing more of the microscopic ferrous metal wear occurring in the motor. IMHO, the magnetic plug, in conjunction with the oil filter, adds an additional level of reassurance that metal particles are kept out of the lubrication system.
As to the cost of copper washers, I got a bag of them super cheap online (probably less than a buck a piece), and I can honestly say I have never once worried about re-torquing my drain plug.
