Windshield replacement

I got a small crack in the windshield yesterday (bless our ridiculously strong glass!) and this morning went out and it had grown to about a foot in length. Where is the best place to replace the windshield? Dealer? Other? Any advice appreciated.

I wouldn't go the dealer route unless you're using insurance to cover it. There are reputable windshield replacement shops online that you can check out if this is going to be outta pocket. And most those shops can get oem glass if you specify. Although I've heard some aftermarket companies offer more chip resistant glass replacements.

Definitely go aftermarket and go with a dedicated autoglass place. I recently had my windshield replaced by Safelite after a number of small rock chips over the past 3 years. Our OEM windshields are too prone to chipping, an aftermarket one _should_ do better.

Zero. I had full glass coverage. Will know when the next premium is due I guess. If your insurance does not cover glass you should call several places for a quote and make sure to find out the extent to which the shop warranties its work.

I just had mine done (again). I have terrible luck with w/shields. Anyway, I'm not sure if it's local to the Boston area but I had J.N.Phillips do mine. They were going to come to my house on a Saturday but it was going to rain, so I dropped it off. I explained to the tech about the annoying w/shield, dash, cowl, noise and he put some extra "stuff" in that area and I haven't heard a sound since. He owned a Nissan, so he was aware of the issue.

Nice clean job.

Mike

Okay, so the glass guy (Safelite) came to my house on Friday to replace. He only had one windshield and told me there were others that were better quality glass and that I should wait (they're all the same price). Does anyone have a good hold on what are the better quality brands? I can't remember the brands he told me.

I heard ppg and pilkington is good.. the Infiniti glass we have is from asahi. I personally want the dealer glass but I don't think allstate would allow 1700 to be spent on replacing it, when they can just make me use oem.
