I was trolling around this forum and others whilst deciding what level of tint to go with. I decided on 35%, which I am really happy with. But as a public service announcement I wanted to share the fact that no picture I found online really represented the shade of tint.
I think it's one of those things that hard to photograph, and it's something that changes greatly depending on lighting (that sounds obvious, I know, but it's kind of a 'truism').
Here are all pictures of cars with 35% tint that I collected from another thread. Again, all of these cars have a 35% tint.

Here's the thing. My car has 35% but it barely looks like it has a tint at all. Crazy, right? These cars look like they are blacked out.

there is a difference between a tint that let pass 35% of the light and a tint at 35% that let pass 65% of the light.
Of course, but I assume that the people who posted these pictures know that.

I wish you had posted this thread last month haha cause when I first saw my windows when I got 35% I was really pissed off at the store that did it cause I thought they didn't even put any tint on! I would have gotten 20 if I had known what it looks like lol
Another thing though is I think it depends on the tint brand because some is a darker shade than others or even more reflective like in the 4th pic

Yeah, same with me. I have a light interior and it barely looks like anything is there. Then again, I'm at the legal limit, and light tint is a little "classier."
However, I think I could have gotten away with 20 after all. Not a biggie. Hey, at least you know you'll never have to pay a ticket or be a sitting duck to cops.

I just got my IP G35 tinted with 35 on the sides and 20 on the back window and it looks really dark! I have grey interior but I dont feel like that even makes a difference to how dark the tint actually is. I'm actually thinking about removing it and going with something lighter..as to not attract the jakes(in NYS its just about illegal to have ANY tint)

I have a black interior and it doesn't seem to make the tint look any darker though. Lol in pa anything under 75% vlt is illegal! As in even 50% is illegal haha cops don't even care that much though as long as they can identify that there's no threat behind the tint windows when they pull u over

It's been my experience that white always makes the tint seem more severe than it really is. I ended up having to remove it on another car specifically to avoid the unwanted "attention". Originally Posted by MrManilow

I have 5% on my back window and side corner windows and 20% on my door windows and i am happy with it... i wanted 10% on the sides but the company didnt sell 10%, but their 20% is dark alot darker then other companies. So it varies with company and interior and obviously sunlight
I still wear sunglasses in the afternoon with my 35% tint. But I like my sunglasses, so it's all good. Plus I can only smile at women from my car if they can see me.

damn, that first white G looks dark, guess it's bc the photo was shot in a darker garage. You're right sprockethead, looking at photos to decide on your tint is almost impossible since there are so many factors (manufacturers, lighting, age of tint, etc) that make the tint vary considerably. You like the 35? Seemed to be too light IMO, especially now that the summer is coming around and the sun is beating down. I went with 20% on the fronts and 5% on everything else and I have no complaints and have never been pulled over...yet.
I like it. I really, really want it to be darker, but then I'd be paranoid probably. 35% is the legal limit. I was just surprised by how light it is! You can clearly see inside the car. I think that SUV factory tint is much darker than 35%.
But in the end I really love how the 35% looks, too (compared to the fishbowl it was before). 35% vs. 20% is just a different type of look. Not better or worse, just different. It reminds me of those 1970s tinted aviator sunglasses that you can see people's eyes through, haha.
