He would have gotten 27 without the intakes. Most folks will see an improvement in something, MPG/HP/Engine smoothness/Oil consumption after they invest money in an aftermarket product. It's purely Psychological, in an effort to justify the purchase IMHO . Nothing more.

2. Gearing on these cars is rediculously short so for sure going slower will help a lot. Someone mentioned 63MPH or less. I am sure that would yield better MPH but where I live, you get killed on fwy for driing that slow! My car at 76mph, engine spins at 3000rpm so for sure it is sucking down more fuel than it needs to.
3. I usually have my AC off. I usually drive early morning, late evenings. I use it when it is really hot out. In evening, I like to crack the windows and enjoy the breeze. I have not noticed that turning AC of affects fuel economy that much. I think G35 consumes more fuel than it should regardless of how easy you drive, with or without AC. I say this based on several other cars I have owned.
4. Fuel economy is always worse in winter if you live in cold climate, like 2-3mpg worse than in summer.

I have 6MT. Best I get is 24.5 fwy (at 70-75mph) and city driving mixed. I always check my mileage per tank by checking miles on trip meter versus gallons pumped. I find both trip computers are a bit optimistic most of the times (one in center stack and one in center of gauge cluster). I have never driven fwy for full tank of gas. I did notice once after filling up, resetting computer and driving fwy home, I was getting 26.8-27.0, with a slight tail wind at about 70-75mph. But rest of that tank was consumed driving around town. On average, I drive 90% surface streets, not fwy I get 21.5-22.5mpg in summer time. If I try, I can get 23.4. Fuel economy drops easy 2-3mpg in cold winter weather

I would say if you are getting 27mpg, that is about as good as it gets with 07-08 G35 6MT.

If you're referring to the original thread, I would suggest that you read it again, since all conditions and type of transmission were specified. What most of us fail to acknowledge however is that these MPG test done by the manufacturers, are done at 55MPH. None of us on here would be willing to do 55 MPH on the highway/interstate to get the maximum this car will give. Haha it was hard for me to go 5 hrs doing under 70MPH but I wanted to test once and for all since I wasn't in a rush to get where I was heading. I don't think it's safe to drive 55MPH on an interstate anyway so I will never see this cars true potential in reference to MPG, however I am happy to get more than specified by the manufacturer claim for hwy, that's more than I can say for my previous vehicle 06 Yukon Denali with a 6.0 engine Yikes!!! 15 MPG hwy

I certainly won't argue that. Seems to ge the case on most mods.

Post 11 is what I'm referencing.

However....on my 00 Maxima I saw a 2 MPG increase when I put in my Stealin intake. On the flip side I put in an Edge Juice/Attitude on my F250 along with an AFE intake and MBRP exhaust. All of the above are supposed to give significant MPG increases and I saw none....only performance which I don't use due to the high price of fuel.

On my 04 Max I lost a MPG with my intake.

^WOW. I myself had an 02 Max 6MT that I did Greddy, Place Racing CAI and I did yeild more power as per dyno testing before/after. However no other increase in anything and the power increase really didn't translate into street driving IMO unless you were at max RPM range. Its was nice to mod it anyways. Not so much now, I will probably do more appearance mods with this than performance mods.

MPG improving year by year

Driving habits unchanged - wife drives mostly around town stop-go-lights with some highway driving. Computer told me averaging 18mpg first year 20mpg second year and 21-22mpg third year, which seems accurate when I keep track for a fill up from time to time.

Just drove 200 highway miles around 80 mph and the computer shows 25. Will verify when I fill up.

Lol, I must have too much testosterone bc getting passed pisses me off. I have noticed very little change in my mpg when I drive like a grandma and when I drive more spirited so I say step on the gas and enjoy the ponies under the hood...

First, as others have said, I don't think you can trust what the computer says. You have to use the method of dividing miles driven by gallons at fill up.

I have actually been tracking my fuel mileage for about 6 months now using a spreadsheet on my Blackberry. I started tracking this because I was seeing a large decrease in MPG back in the winter. I was use to getting to about 350 miles before need to fill up and I was only getting to about 325, so I started tracking it and I was going to report it to the dealer. What it turned into was a comparison between using 89 vs. 93 octane gas since mileage returned to its previous level as summer rolled around.

You'll generally get better mileage in the summer, although in Pennsylvania, we use "low vapor pressure" or "summer blend" gas from May 1 to Sept 1 so you don't get as much mpg from that. Our gas also contains 10% enthanol, so that brings down the fuel mileage.

Below is my spreadsheet. As you can see, based on my 20% City, 80% Highway driving pattern, I should expect somewhere around 21.8 mpg. I am actually getting 18.55 mpg, which is a 15% reduction.

One additional thing to note, if you throw out the last 4 fillups with 93 Octane since they occured under the summer blend/warmer weather, the average mpg for 89 Octane I experienced was 18.25 mpg and it was 18.27 mpg for 93 Octane. There goes the theory of getting 10% or some more mileage out of 91 octane or better.

2008 G35x Fuel Mileage

EPA Rating= 17 mpg City
23 mpg Highway
Current usage = 20% City
80% Highway
Anticipated Average (based on usage mix) = 21.80 mpg
Current Average = 18.55 mpg
-15%

Could also be driving (downhill) on a long gradual grade too; a tailwind might even help too.

I think if you got 27.5, good for you you're pretty much right there. If any more could be coaxed out of it, it would have to be at the cost of a severe compromise in your driving experience/enjoyment.
I check my MPG after every tankful and reset my history after every oilchange. I consistently get 22 MPH, it used to be 20 MPG until they moved my office which required more highway driving. I did a drive across country (Arizona to Maryland to Florida back to Arizona) I reset my historical gas mileage before the trip and after and got around 26 - 27MPG. You can look at my hitory and it is right at 22 MPG for the past year.
I don't race around but I don't drive like a granny either. Over the years I have learned that changing your oil regularly and checking your tire pressure every week will do more for your gas mileage than almost anything. If you drive like it's a race every day, then nothing will help you until you change your habits.
