Mpg report

Well after seeing some claims on here about getting 30 MPG, I took this opportunity to see the max I could get. I'm on a short trip from current location to Columbia SC. I arrived yesterday. Upon the completion of my trip
27.5 is max I could get. Here are my driving conditions:

07 Sport Sedan 6MT, stock wheels
65-68 MPH ( i just know it was never 70 but got close)
Cruise control
Drivers side, and right rear window cracked about 3"
No AC
44,300 miles on my car.

How the fck some folks claim 30 MPG is beyond me. What did I do wrong here to not get 30MPG? Or are those 30 mpg claims BS

at least u got 27. count yourself lucky. When i first got my '07 no matter how i grandmothered the pedal on 93 gas my mileage was 12/18(pure highway too) Dealer said its normal. Now at 50k miles, 16/21. its a hit or miss.

I can get 30mpg hwy all day long driving 65mph. We use imperial gallon though
I don't think any one can get 30US MPG averaging nearly 70mph. If you drop that down to 55-59mph then I can see it. That mph difference makes a big difference for this engine.

Got 25.6 mpg on i-95 last Thursday, 50 mile trip, 60-70 mph (66 mph avg. according to computer) most of the time with a minimal passing at 75 mph.

Coming home I got about 22.9, going faster, average was closer to 70 but not sure what it was exactly. Also, there were more idiots on the road requiring more braking and accelerating and sometimes passing. That is the best I have ever gotten, previous best was 23.9 on the same trip. City is like 14 even when I baby it...lame. My car is a 2007 G35x, and I recently got an ECU update to try to fix a lag/lurching shift in city driving (smooth into 3rd for 2 seconds then a stall and a lurch int what i thin was 4th). Lag is gone hard shift up to 4th 2 seconds after shifting to 3rd has stayed but is a little better.

These cars drink gas like my dad used to drink whiskey. My V8 545i got better got better mpg. I have yet to compare, but I think even my wife's V8 Cadillac SRX does better.

I agree.. MPG on these cars kinda suck. I drive like a grandma and I only get 18.5 MPG. So I decided to drive more normal and I still get 18.5. LOL

to make you guys feel a little better, my regular driving gets me an economical 12.9 mpg... (mostly hilly suburban 40mph)

the highest ive ever gotten was (off of some potent cali ****.......you know,.....gas from cali...?) around 21 on highway...

I have a lot of doubts about those numbers too. I suspect some people are cherry picking the samples by resetting the mpg on the trip computer after they've gotten up to speed on the freeway and then take their reading when they exit, thereby eliminating any lower mpg from averaging in. Could also be driving (downhill) on a long gradual grade too; a tailwind might even help too.

I think if you got 27.5, good for you you're pretty much right there. If any more could be coaxed out of it, it would have to be at the cost of a severe compromise in your driving experience/enjoyment.

OK to make this a bit more consistent, we should only report full tank of gas reports. In my particular case, I drive mostly highway miles and I average 21mpg. My best ever was 23mpg. However I usually cruise close to 80mph. I tried, I really tried to slow myself down to say 70mph but I just could not do it. Every time I got passed by some econo-box I just had to let him/her know what I have under the hood One of these days I will finally wise up and slow down, but its really hard when almost every one around you drives this fast.

I have averaged 22 through the last 5 tanks. I try to keep my foot out of it as much as possible but I have the same problem as Tomek I cant let people pass me for some reason.
