Snow mode??

Just reading my manual and see that my new to me car doesn't have snow mode.

Is this something different than traction control?

Appears that I should google before I post!

(Sorry guys. Can I still use the new guy excuse?)

From what I can tell its not an option on the 6MT and the VDSC is essentially the same thing.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I've only owned this thing 24 and a half hours. Ask me again after the first snow storm.

If the recent consensus is correct that the snow mode does nothing aside from reducing the throttle (and has no effect on the awd), makes you wonder why they didn't throw it in on all their cars (awd or not)..

Doesn't the VDSC cut throttle under slippery conditions?

Yes. Snow mode on rwd cars is typically torque reduction and slower throttle response. Shouldn't make a difference in th way vdc reacts to loss of traction. The only snow mode for you is feathering the **** out of the clutch and throttle.

Thats how it was in my Maxima which didn't have traction control....second gear and modulate the throttle.

My girlfriend's Jetta has TC...kinda fun to floor it in the snow.

I always thought that snow mode also allowed for just a little bit more wheel spin before traction control went into full action; is that not so?

^ nope snow mode just retards throttle.

Turn off VDC, b/c it prob wont let you move in the snow, once you start moving turn it back on.

See, that's exactly why I thought snow mode would be more tolerant of a little initial wheelspin. I don't even have an X, so it's purely academic for me. I just assumed that's how any manufacturer would make a "snow mode"; desensitize the throttle AND the traction control. It's certainly the way I would do it anyway.

Is the snow mode sort of like launch control? Which yields faster 0-60 times with snow mode, with VDC on or off?

Fastest 0-60 would be no snow mode and vdc off but you'll be sliding around which is never a bad thing lol.
