Just had major warranty work done (inc. tranny), all free!

SORRY for the length guys...

Just wanted to share a positive dealer experience with my 07 6MT. I was approaching the 4 year point on the factory 4/60 warranty (less than a week left), so I thought I'd take it in and get everything done that I possibly could before it expired. I also have an Elite 7/100 extended warranty, but I'd heard factory claims were the easiest for the dealer to process.

Anyway, I've only put 49K miles so far, but I had the usual sticky 1-2, 2-3 up-shifts (particularly when cold during the winter) for a couple years now and then, just in the last few months, I've had a grind when downshifting 6-5 on the freeway at about 65mph. It was clearly the synchro, so I'd read in some threads where I might get a new tranny out of it.

SIDE NOTE: I never had the slave cylinder recall work performed, because I never had symptoms and the service manager said that I could still do it at any time. I figured I'd save it until I was ready for a new clutch and then use it for what I called my "free clutch replacement labor".

Other issues with the car were the door weatherstripping issues, door grab paint scratching/scuffing, steering wheel paint scratching/scuffing, and instrument cluster dash board peeling back on the left hand side.

I took it in and the rep asked if I had done the 30K on the tranny. I told him yes, I had done it myself with Redline MT90 GL4 gear oil, and he confirmed it was an acceptable oil and should suffice for warranty if it was indeed a synchro. He then casually noted all the other items I pointed out without the slighted protest or argument and we went in and wrote it all out. They gave me a loaner (for what would turn out to be 9 days) and I was on my way.

Next day I get a call and he says the master mechanic confirmed the 5-6 synchro issue. However, the factory wants to perform the slave recall and retest before they'll pay for the new tranny. I had no choice but to OK them dropping the tranny to do the recall, then reinstall the same tranny and confirm that the synchro was still bad. SO, they did just that and, sure enough, tranny was still bad and OUT IT WENT... Finally!

Just to wrap it up, they applied doublestick tape to weatherstripping on all four doors, they changed the door grabs on all four doors, they swapped out the steering wheel, they replaced the instrument cluster dash hood.....AND they gave me a brand new 6 spd tranny ...ALL FOR FREE!!

I felt like this:

But I only showed this:

Congrats VQ hope your tranny stays in good shape for years to come, keep us posted on its performance after a few thousand miles, since a couple of members who had their tranny replaced for synchro issues ended up with the same problem a few thousand miles later.

Thanks kool , that's good to know. I will definitely be keeping an eye on it. Like I mentioned though, I still have a 7/100 from here on.

damn, you must be living right! That's good to hear though, there are some horror stories on here of people getting denied on warranty issues. I have two local dealers to choose from and hope one of them is as professional and courteous as yours when I bring it in in a few months for my warranty stuff. Did they replace your entire steering wheel or just the plastic part that peels?

^^ They replaced the entire wheel. I definitely notice that the leather and stitching is all "un-broken in".

As for the living right part....yeah, sure.

You got so lucky on that one. Kudos to you dealership for doing the right thing, and for you from restraining the happy dance.
