Rev Matching (5at)
I was just wondering who else here matches revs when they downshift in sport mode?
EDIT: (i mean rev matching before the next gear engages, causing the car to buck/slam forward for a second. rev matching for a SMOOTH downshift)

if it does do it automatically, it's not smooth AT ALL! It slams the car forward
lol maybe you guys havent tried downshifting yet...try downshifting 3>2 or 2>1 around 4500 RPM and try telling me that its a smooth shift. and no theres no problem with my tranny. even my 330ci you were able to match rpms for smooth downshifts...

I downshift all the time from 3 to 2 and even 2 to 1 on occasion, and I never have to rev match manually. The auto trans does all the thinking for me, and its as smooth as butter. However I will never drop it from 2 to 1 at 4500rpm this is just asking for trouble. I sure hope that you are not dropping it from 2 to 1 when your engine is at 4500rpm on regular basis, this will send the engine too close to red line. This is not a healthy thing to do to your transmission, and yes all the automatic cars that I have driven thus far will lurch at these rpms.

Before I drove a car with paddle shifters/rev matching tranny, I never thought how convenient it could actually be. I was always under the impression that no auto could match slamming a manual from 4th to 2nd to get into the powerband and take off. So I experimented with the G, and sure enough... You can "double click" the shifter or the left paddle to downshift 2 gears at once. Please try this at your own risk. If you've never driven a stick before, perhaps you need to familiarize yourself with your gear ratios so that you know when it is safe to do so.

If the car is already high in a gear, it won't let you downshift anymore.

I beg to differ... Don't ask me how I know. There is something scary about seeing the tach creep past 8k when the factory rev limiter is at around 7600. I reacted properly though and no harm was done. The engine can safely rev to 8k, but if you start messing with downshifting by "double clicking" the left paddle at too high an rpm for a double downshift, you had better know what revs you'll end up at after the tranny drops 2 gears down.
I'm not sure if the safety was designed with downshifting more than one gear at a time in mind. So I thought I'd mention it.
