Slight play in passenger side halfshaft/diff - G35x

Hey all,

I'm trying to track down a very faint noise/feeling in my car. Basically at low speeds, I can here a slight "wump, wump" sound from the front of the car. I can feel it very slightly in the chassis as well.

My initial thought was wheel bearing, so I ordered up a new one and replaced one, that made no change at all, so I swapped the one I pulled out into the other side (it felt/looked/sounded fine) and again made no change in the sound. In fairness, it did quiet down the front very slightly, the car has 75k miles on it.

While it was apart for the bearings (nice easy job, BTW, I like the bearing/hub unit setups, only took an hour or so per side), I noticed that the passenger side half shaft has some play where it enters the front differential (not the CV joints). The driver's side does not have this play.

I've killed some half shafts before (used to race a FWD Grand Prix years ago) and the sound is somewhat reminiscent of that. I'm trying to determine the best step now. I've studied the diagrams for the front diff, and I'm not seeing a specific carrier bearing for the half shaft support, so I'm looking for ideas. Anyone else seen anything like this before?

It's not a major issue (my wife can't feel it) but it's enough that I'd like to stay ahead of the issue.

Has anyone ever had a diff apart? Any pictures?

Thanks all-

-Blake
