leather wear

My 2007 G35s 30k is showing some cracking in the leather on the drivers seat. It just on one side (closest to the door) and is on the both the seat and back panels.

I showed my dealer prior to my 4 year warranty expiring. They admitted it looks like premature wear but they can't do anything about it. They said in the old days they could remove the panels and stitch in new ones, but now with all the safety system wiring in the seats they won't touch them.

Just wondering is anyone else has come across this or has an opinion on it.

that looks premature for sure but im guessing you havent really spent much time using quality leather conditioner over the year... i have nothing like that with over 4yrs and ~56k miles thanks to twice a month conditioning of the leather with blue magic.

I recommend cleaning them properly and using leather oil to improve the condition and then keep conditioning at least twice a month which is an easy 20min job.

Leatherique Oil
Buy here or google it

I bought mine used with 16K miles on it. The leather was so hard and cracked it was not even funny. And the Infiniti dealership I bought it from thought it was normal, #$%holes. Does't surprise me with all the issues, like for instance tape over the license plate lights because the car was painted and they said it has never been touched. Oops, did I get on a tangent?
Anyway, when I brought it up home to Northern Cali, the dealer was appauld. Replaced both front seats, steering wheel, trim around radio, and the cover to the speedo since it was not holding up to the sun,

My leather is holding up fine (leather conditioner FTW) but my driver's seat cushion is crushed so bad that it doesn't stabilize me in turns and it squeaks against the center console. The dealership refused to replace it under warranty. Infiniti consumer affairs offered to split the cost of a $4k driver's seat replacement. I told them that infinitiparts sells the seat cushion for $300. Still waiting to hear back on that..

^ this is true.
A few other factors, climate, where a car is parked and if it has tints will make a difference too.
I use leather cleaner/conditioner, 4 times a year, windows are tinted and the car is parked in a garage (except at the office). Seats look like new.

Leather crack b/c they are just simply animal hide and dries up. Due to excess contact and exposure of slime and grime that builds up on it after years of neglect, it dries and cracks. even a simple wipe here and there could help prevent future damage. You gotta make sure the leather stays "moist" and get rid of the grime on the seats.

Yep, all under warranty. I basically told them that a car with 16K miles on it should not have hard leather like that. It was an obvious defect. No questions asked they ordered and installed the leather. I was only complaining about the drivers seat and the steering wheel but the advisor saw the passenger seat was hard too so they replaced them both!

Mine is like that too. Unless it's torn and under warranty they will not replace it.

Yes i understand. I worked in detailing at a BMW dealership for a few years while i was a student.

I use Lexol several times a year as I'm in Arizona where its bone dry.

If it was lack of conditioning then why just these two sections on one side and not the whole seat & back?

How heavy you are also makes a difference, heavier set people tend to put more stress on the seat. However, no matter how much you weigh, proper cleaning/conditioning will go a long way.
