People that own V1 will tell you that it's the best thing since sliced bread (me included)
People that own Escort will tell you the same thing.

Which means that both radars perform equally as good.

One thing I like in V1 over any other radar is the arrows. Very nice to see where is the threat coming from.

Since I had it, I was NEVER caught speeding with it.

Yep, this debate has been discussed a thousand times.

I have the 9500ix and wouldn't trade it for the world. It has saved my butt numerous times, 2500 miles from Cali to Ohio, 1100 miles from Texas to Ohio and everyday driving use. I have no complaints. It even picked up laser in time to slow down.

Escort Pro's
GPS, lets you block out false signals, but still detect a cop the next time by that spot; redlight and speed camera detections. You can update recently installed cameras by taking your laptop to the car(for a fee).

Valentine Pro's
Direction detection.

Both are great units, and if Valentine had the GPS I would have gotten that one. The GPS feature is far greater than direction detection, even though that is a great option also. I hate False signals and this takes care of damn near all of them. You have to drive by them twice and the unit automatically asks if you want to block them, or you can just hit the button on the power plug twice. The best Detector is one that only beeps when there is a threat

Great review:

From the article:
Next up was the Passport 9500i, its settings unchanged. After completing an identical circuit, we had a direct comparison of their behavior in town. The scores were Valentine One: 51 total falses and 81 bogeys, Escort 9500i: 0 falses, 0 bogeys.

In the past 22 years there's been only one radar detector I've tested that was quieter in town than the Escort Passport 9500i. And that one had suffered an internal meltdown; it was dead on all three bands

+1 for V1.

I was like you when searching for my radar detector and just happened to find a cheap V1 on craigslist so I went that route. After looking at all the reviews you can't go wrong with either one though. All it has to do is save you one time and its paid for itself...

I have a 9500ix and love it. Can't tell you how many times it has saved me. Best features is the lock out, which will block out false signals after passing through it twice. GPS is great feature as well and I do prefer it over the direction detection which valentine will not only have soon...

The v1 is good as well, but i can't stand how it does not block out false signals. When you mount it with a blend mount or a mikes mount, our cars might set them off..that's an FYI just incase. So you'll have to send it back to factory to get it modified

I had an 8500 until somebody wanted it worse than I did. They got a bonus Blackberry and GPS while they were molesting my car.

I replaced it with a V1 because I heard it was the cat's meow.

Having had both I can report the following:

The auto mute on the Escort is friggin awesome.
The falses on the V1 make you want to throw it out the window.
The V1 will sometimes pick up a second before an Escort will. A friend of mine put his on opposite corners of his window (to prevent them from setting each other off) and confirmed this on a 1000 mile drive.

End result. The V1 iritates me daily with the falses and the inability to auto mute, but I'll take it because it gives me the best protection. I had it paired with the ZR4 Shifters in my Maxima, not sure if I'll install them in my G. They are illegal in OK, but I travel frequently so I'd just keep them off when I'm in town. However the adaptive cruise control always sets off my laser on the V1 (I ended up disabling it) so I fear that it would do the same thing with the shifters.

Speaking of adaptive cruise if you've got it on your G get the V1. I don't believe you can disable laser on the Escort and it will go off every six seconds.

^^You can disable the laser on the 9500, I have mine enabled only on long highway drives. Go for the 9500 if you don't want false alarms every 15 seconds, V1 if you want arrows.
