yup i think thats the best way to go, but over some plastadip so you dont permanently mess up the grill.

if it doesnt work for me im just going to get it professionally painted by someone who knows how to paint chrome.

Quote: i just p-dipped my gril about 5-6 coats let it cure then hit it with about 3 coats of clear coat! looks....HORRIBLE lol, but mainly because of the texture. the bumpy texture that p-dip leaves is even more noticable since its shiny. im going to wet sand the plastadip and spray black gloss paint i think that will look better then the clearcoat imo.
You can't wetsand rubber

You sand the chrome finish off, prime and paint.

If you are able to DIY with plastidip then you should be able to DIY with paint too. Just take your time and do a good job sanding and cleaning between coats.

my friend was able to wetsanded his and left it smooth ...maybe because it has a clear coat on top it made it alot harder and was able to withstand a light grit.

6 coats is nowhere near thick enough, but you're getting there. I think i did at least twice that on my grille and it still didn't come off in one piece.

If that's the effect, i vote for that as well. But for something removable and is actually rather impact resistant, i like PD.

don't do it! it's a pain to get off and it doesn't really improve the matte black
