Has anyone removed their tint on their G35's. Reason I asked is when I bought my car it already had what looks like 50% really light for me. They place I get it tinted said its really hard to take the tint off of the rear windshield because of the defrosters. Anyone have any issues? If not will it look weird if I have 35% on the front and rear and just leave my 50% on my rear windshield.....

 

removing tints from rear windshield does at times mess up the rear defrosting lines which is why they wont guarantee anything, however i helped a friend takes his tints off on a VERY hot day and we were able to get it off without an issues. We covered/taped the rear windshield with black trash bags for a few hours and parked in direct sun to help the adhesive heat up and then removed it slowly and the defroster came out unharmed. If you damage some of it you can buy a repair kit for a few bucks and fix it.

On the other hand i recommend letting it stay on and apply a lighter shade to help match the sides.

Thanks man that's kind of what I was thinking too. I was thinking 35% on the sides and whatever the tints shop rec. to make the rear darker.....

 

Usually, you'll strip off the film leaving the glue behind. Spray on simple green full strength, let it sit a while. The glue will then become soft and able to scrub off using a non scratch scrubber.

 

if the tint is on there with no flaws u should be able to tint on top of that tint

 

^ Exactly. Just double tint it. Add a layer of 35% over the 50%.

 

I had to remove my 13% off my rear window on my GP...i had a tint shop do it. Cost about $100 to do it and i only lost 2 defroster lines. Better than me doing it to lose all of them

 

The plastic trash bag trick is what I use as well, with a little added touch. Soak the window with window cleaner that has ammonia in it...The ammonia helps dissolve the adhesive.

Soak windows > cover with trash bags > park car in sun for 30 min with heat on high > peel off tint > drink beer

 

^ yup i did that too but forgot to mention it since its been a long time, but yes ammonia helps a lot! Maybe tahts why we didnt loose any lines.

 

Don't use ammonia, use simple green. Less smell and less harsh on the interior.

 

You don't use strait ammonia, I usually use Windex. Full strength Simple Green would be more dangerous to your interior then Windex would be,

All great Ideas, I saw a youtube video of a guy that bought a $20 steamer from walmart and the tints came straight off. He did one window in less than 4min? Anyone try this?

 

Id imagine its fine for the windows but if you got any on the leather it would dry the crap out of it. Have you ever gotten the full strength stuff on your hands? Dries them out in a second.
