Steering wheel "clunk/knock"

Hey guys I got a knock coming from the steering wheel when it gets moved slightly side to sid eon my '11 g37 S sedan. Its virtually identicle to this guys problem on myg37.com: http://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-seda...ing-sound.html

I took it to passport infiniti in Alexandria, Va and the SA called me to say that it seems to be a normal occurence and that he tried several new and used Gs and they all do it. He said there is no play in the column and all of the tie rods and control arms look good (car has 2,700 miles on it)I have a '10 G37x as a loaner and while I here a slight clunk its very muted and I don't get any feedback into the steering wheel as I do in mine...

Any advice, or is this really normal??

They all do it when you first turn on the car if you have the auto lift up steering wheel setting activated it will lock / move into place if you put pressure on it

^ i dont think he's talking about the up/down movement of the cluster, but rather of just the steering wheel being turned left/right which would have something to do with a the steering rack imo.

Update:well delaer pulled up a brand new 37S for me to compare and sure enough it does clunk as well. Doesn't sound as loud as mine but def there. He said he contacted Infiniti and one of the engineers there said the steering rack is design so the gears don't mesh hence the play and the clunk....I'm still a bit skeptical but she's under warranty so we'll see.

I don't have any advice other than to say it's not normal.
My 07x had the up/down issue where it would drop down a couple mm after the auto power tilt lowered it into place. Infiniti replaced it and the new one still did the same thing.
What you are describing is much different. My 2011 G37S 6mt doesn't have any noises or unusual movement from the steering wheel or column. It's rock solid.

Mine did the up/down thingy as well. My dealer replaced the servo that brings the cluster up and down and it's been rock solid ever since.

As for the side to side clunk... I dont think I have that, but being that I haven't seen my car in 3 months... who knows. Maybe my memory sucks. LOL
