08 Auto Transmission Problem (Reverse)
Hey guys Ive been having some problems with my car recently and couldnt find any info on it so I thought I'd post here.
My car is an 08 XS Auto trans with almost 86k miles. The past month I've noticed a slight hesitation when shifting into reverse. When the car was cold there was no hesitation but after it warmed up it took a few seconds after shifting to Reverse for it to actually engage.
Today I got in my car and after it warmed up it I shifted to Reverse and it wasnt engaging at all. It felt like I was in neutral. After revving it up to around 2500 and letting off it finally engaged, pretty harshly. I also noticed that after work i shifting into Reverse soon after startup and it engaged but did it harshly again.
I'm not sure what the problem is. It shifts into park, nuetral, and drive fine. Also shifts perfectly fine in drive and in manual mode. Has anyone had a similar problem or heard of anything like this? Ill have the dealer take a look at it was just looking for any input as to what could be the problem. Thanks.

^ whs, check fluid level and if that correct it could be your valvebody, iv fixed/rebuilt quite a few valvebody for ppl i know(only 1 G(100+k), mostly saturns and a couple hondas) and one of the most common signs was delayed reverse followed by no reverse.
And since it drives fine in all other forward gears it means that your input/otuput shaft nuts are still torqued correctly, but if you keep engaging reverse harshly with revving until it clicks, this wil cause for these shaft nuts to come loose and the clutch packs to hit the cover which can be a pita.
Take it in and get the VB checked out.

Thanks guys took it to the Dealer today the advisor was saying he can run some tests but he thinks its internal. He also mentioned the valve body like you did. They dont rebuild these transmissions at the dealer he was saying hed have to get a remanufactured one or a brand new one.
So it looks like I'll be pulling it myself and bringing it somewhere for rebuild. I dont know much about auto transmissions but I cant really justify spending 6k$ parts and labor from the dealer when I can get it rebuilt for 1500 or a used one for about the same. Thanks for the help guys.

If you're hoping to buy an Elite warranty now to cover a problem that you (full well) know already exists, you should know that the car will have to undergo an inspection at the dealership before they will issue a policy for it. They are specifically trying to eliminate the unethical and unscrupulous behavior you're suggesting.
