I have wrapped my steering wheel, window switch plates and all the brushed aluminum dash pieces in CF in my car already. All the factory rubberized finish was pretty scratched and you could tell where someone had just painted over it. I think the outcome came out pretty well.

I am also in progress of wrapping the chrome pieces on the exterior of the car around the windows and the lip on the rear where the camera is. These will be wrapped in a black vinyl.
Welcome! Looks good! Must have taken a long time!

Well, that's sure the part number that's given in this post, but if it's not right, then somebody goofed; either at the dealership you got the part from (does it have a number on it so you can tell you did indeed get the right one?), or the original poster (harp00n) of that part number. No one else has commented about it in the threads it is listed in, so if you can prove it is wrong and you do find the right one, please post it here for others. One thing you might do it contact one of the dealership vendors here (Phil@GRUBBS or RIck@PerryInfiniti, etc.)

Does anyone know the torque specs of the airbag torx screws?
Thanks,

No. An independent mechanic, a retail chain shop, or even you yourself can do routine maintenance and repairs on your vehicle. In fact, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, which is enforced by the FTC, makes it illegal for manufacturers or dealers to claim that your warranty is void or to deny coverage under your warranty simply because someone other than the dealer did the work.”

Yes, the dealership can void your warranty, but it is up to THEM to prove that your tampering with the airbag or airbag screws led to some malfunction. The torque specifications for the two airbag screws are well documented, so as long as you did it correctly, the dealership will have trouble proving their denied warranty claim.

Here you go, I included both steering wheel & airbag info, and overlaid the torque symbol legend for your reference:

^^ SO . . . it looks like it's 82 inch-lbs., or just under 7 ft-lbs.

Thanks Mikaly... that is awesome!!!

The other Q I had was that according to the steering wheel replacement protocol (ITB12-050, bullet "e") they dispose the back cover of the steering wheel and replace with a new one.

Does this have to be done? None of the member write-ups mention a new back cover being required. I am getting a pair of torx screws (airbag screws) since some people ended up damaging theirs.

Thanks again...
Cheers!

Nope, you can definitely reuse your back cover! It snaps right back on - good as new!

Thank you Mikaly. With your DIY, it didn't take long at all. Have been procrastinating doing the CF wrap to my beat up steering wheel trim because of the hassle of getting the trim piece out but it wasn't bad at all.

The CF vinyl was tricky and wish I had some practice with it before because you do learn some tricks as you are doing it--but best part is a lot of my little imperfections aren't even noticeable once installed and the air bag module replaced over top. I highly recommend anyone who likes the carbon fiber look to give the wrap a try. Makes me love my car even more now!

Thumbs up This thread is great!

I just wanted to say thanks to mikaly and all the others on this thread. I just completed this install in an hour and a half including the trip down the street for the T30 tamper proof bit and drinking the requisite 2 beers. Total cost not including booze was $35 max. What an excellent writeup good job

Many thanks all!

Peace!
