Intelligent Cruise Not Working

A month ago my car was involved in a minor front end accident, needed a new bumper cover and the cruise sensor bracket was bent upwards. The local body shop did good work installing and paint matching the new bumper cover and they also spent an hour or so bending the cruise camera bracket back to its normal location.

If I turn the cruise on and I am going under 25 mph it looks like normal where the display comes up in the middle of the dash, but I can't set it because I am going to slow. Once I get over 25 mph it will beep once and the yellow cruise warning light at the top of the gauges will come on and stay on until I turn the crusie off. If I do not turn it on then I do not get the warning light. If I turn it back on it does the same thing one beep and the yellow cruise warning light comes on.

So I disconnected the cruise sensor and removed it, nothing appears broken on the outside, so I took the 4 screws apart and it looks nice and clean with nothing appearing to be broken inside.

I know these sensors need to be aligned to function properly but will it do this if its mis aligned or does this sound more like a broken sensor? I am thinking a mis alignment would make it not function properly but if its turning itself off before its even turned on (crusie set) then that makes me think it might be a bad sensor. I could also take it to the dealer to have them pull a code but I am trying to keep the repair cost down...

Thanks

I found a used camera and bracket from a 2007 G35 Sport but the car was a manual not auto, think that makes a difference?

The camera looks identical, the part number on it is slightly different mine is

and it is

Was the car repaired by your insurance company? If so why didn't they replace the ICC sensor? (it's not a camera, more like radar/infrared sensor)

I would go back to your insurance company and complain

Nope didn't go through insurance, my rates are finally getting low so I don't want them to go back up...

Yes you are right it is not a camera, more like a laser sensor

you are correct about the aiming of the laser. It is not a simple procedure either. It is a pain in the a--. You have to set up a special aiming board, the vehicle has to be a certain distance from the board and then adjust it using consult. The ICC laser assy.is about a $2000.00 part and a dealer is going to charge you no less than $300.00 to aim it.

So I ended up picking up another cruise sensor, the one that I mentioned above, same year, same options, just from a G35 that had the manual transmission instead of the auto like mine.

After installing it the yellow cruise warning light does not come on at all. There are no warning lights or beeps everything seems normal. I can press the on/off switch and turn the cruise system on, I can adjust the distance, but I am still unable to set my speed. I tried a few different adjustments with the angle of the sensor but no difference. The wipers are off and the vdc is enabled.

With my old sensor installed whenever I turned the cruise on it would beep once and the yellow warning light would come on, then it would turn off the cruise before I could set a speed.

I am contemplating taking it in for an alignment to the dealer but was wondering if anyone has done this and wanted to know what symptoms they had to know they needed the cruise sensor aligned?

Well I managed to get the cruise working, so it now turns on and I can set the speed. The brake pedal switch needed some adjusting as it was telling the cruise system that the brake was being applied...

The cruise sets like before and seems to function normally but its weird since I am in Canada the dash is is km/h but the speed shown on the cruise is in mph (but right below it says km/h). It's really weird and I am guessing its because the replacement cruise sensor I got was from a US car. I will play around with some of the settings for the display and maybe I can get it back to km/h but I am thinking this might not be possible. Any ideas?

I have not had a chance to test the sensor yet to see how it is acting, but it will most likely need to go into the dealer for an alignment.

Like I said above I am planning to get it aligned but I am trying to figure out if it can be changed from mph to km/h first...
