Roof spoiler installation | tips?

I couldn't find a thread in the "08 sedan DIY" section for roof spoiler installations. If I missed it, could someone post the link here?

So I grabbed some double-sided mounting tape today, but not 3M brand. I bought Loctite Power Grab. Has anyone heard/used this brand? It cost a bit more than 3M.

http://www.loctiteproducts.com/p/pg_...nting-Tape.htm

Any tips on install? Direction to apply the tape (smaller vertical pieces vs. longer horizontal ones)? And I've heard to place a heavy weight on top of the spoiler to help it bond.

Also, will the tape be visible from inside the car (i.e. can it be seen through the back window when sitting in the car)?

By the way, it's a Ravspec (BlackAero) roof spoiler. Thanks in advance!

im tellin ya, use some silicone adhesive. 3-5 globs down the spoiler. It will hold like a rock. have no fear when its time to remove, it can be done and the silicone scrapes right off the windshield

The main thing is to heat up both the area on the window as well as the tape on the spoiler. Then put 6 dots of silicone, on each corner and in the middle of the spoiler on the top and bottom. Then i just taped it down for 2-3 hours and thats all. Never had a problem after doing it this way.

Hmm, silicone? I've heard of using that too, but many on here swear by tape alone. Can anyone who has ONLY used tape chime in with updates?

Thanks for those who replied already!

Industrial stregth double sided tape will do fine. Silicone can be used if you are really paranoid but not necessary IMO. As someone mentioned above, heat up the contact point with a blow dryer first for a nice strong bond with the surface and the double sided tape.

Good to know - I will heat up the window and the tape on the spoiler before applying. Just waiting for the rain to stop.

Also, does the direction of the tape matter when applying it to the spoiler? I was planning to use short vertical strips (maybe 3in apart) across the length of the spoiler, as opposed to long horizontal strips.

Thanks for everyone's input!

Here is a link Ian put up, in the diy section, for the OEM spoiler. It should help.

Sorry for the late update!

I installed the roof spoiler back in Feb. with Loctite tape alone. It did not hold up. =(

I left weight on top of it for the weekend. Drove to work on Monday but by the time I got there, the spoiler was lifting off the glass. Had to remove the spoile.

FYI, I placed about 25 pieces of tape vertically across the entire spoiler.

I still have the tape on the spoiler. What I will try next is the silicone adhesive. Anyone have a brand they suggest? Also, I've read here that all I need is 4 - 6 globs/dots to apply. I was originally thinking of just applying it all across the edges and "outline" the spoiler. I'm assuming that would be overkill? Haha.

Thanks for listening and for anymore suggestions!

mine held fine with the 2 long strips of 3M and 3 globs of silicone adhesive.
