Smile Thinking of joining the club!

Hi Guys,

I just sold my 2003 Acura Tl Type-S, the tranny went out. I'm looking to switch to Nissan/Infiniti. My last two cars have been a Honda Accord and the Acura Tl...and I'm done with Honda/Acura and the quality of their cars.

I am looking into getting a 2007-2008 G35....my biggest mistake with my last car was assuming that because it was an Acura...that, I was paying for peace of mind and a quality built car..by a company that will always take care of their customers...I was wrong, and I'm sure you guys know about Honda/Acura's and their history of faulty transmissions.

So...before I purchase a G35, I was hoping you guys could give me some advice as to any type of major issues that I should be aware of. Should I go with the rear wheel drive or all wheel drive. Any other insight you guys can give me will be great.

I look forward to becoming a frequent visitor to this site, once I get my car. Thanks!

An Acura with tranny problems? NEVER. It is a Honda. They always work! False.

Do you live in a place with snow or no snow? Do you want AWD? A few of us get around in the snow with RWD and snow tires just fine.

All depends on what you want.

g35

I would recommend getting a RWD if you get some snow tires. I have 07 6MT S and couldnt be happier. No major problems besides rediculous trim peeling but easily replaced. If you are serious about buying a G PM me and i can give you some tips/?'s should have the dealer take care of before buying. Good luck!

Going from acura to G35 is a nice upgrade. RWD is a different feel. I love it and i use to come from acura myself. Never going back to acura.

The G35 has its own devil, it has quite a list of TSB, you need to go through them and see if your car needs any work done. I have owned my car for less than 3 months, and I have been back to the dealer three times for TSB and stuff. They are not horrible problems, but just some little things here or there, and it will drive you nuts if you don't get them fixed.

And still, I think the Infiniti was "designed" like a Nissan. Its just doing DYI stuff (DYI light bulb change for example) are not as easy as I would have expected.

I own both Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Toyota Solara (Camry) and Infiniti G35. Working on both Honda and Toyota on simple DYI are way easier than the Nissan and Infiniti. In Honda and Toyota, stuff are designed to be replaced with less (other) things that you need to take out. But for the Nissan, it seems like you need to take out more (other) parts in order to do some simple work.

Anyway, not dissing the G35. I still like mine, but I am just saying you need to know what you are getting into

Thanks for all the advice guys. I've decided on a RWD G35. Right now I am having my broker find me the best deal. Looking forward to being a G35 owner soon.

Just made the same leap myself, from that gen TL to my new (to me) 08 G35S 6MT. I really wanted the 6 spd and RWD, couldn't be happier so far with the decision. Snows are a must though if you plan on winter driving or live somewhere that gets snow and cold weather. You'll love the upgrade, good luck!

You should be aware that the engine has 2 air filters and throttle bodies to worry about (vs. 1) which in the long run may need replacement and cleaning respectively. Also, beware that fuel consumption is actually worse than the government estimates (real life mpg is somewhere around 16/23 mpg city/hwy). There is also an issue about the shiftable tiptronic transmission (going from 2-3 is notchy for the 5-speed) but on D or DS mode it is fine.
