You've owned a G long enough, you should be embarrassed you asked that question. 
Driving around with no under shield, no battery cover, no fender liner, just to gO low n slow is crazy... Just imagine all the electrical components and metal structure that is exposed to water, snow, salt, debris and more. All that will accelerate the point of failure n lead to large shop bills and dents in wallets

At this point, he notices a large amount of water draining out of my car onto the floor and seems to have collected below the battery because the drain down below the battery box is plugged with pine needles. He then removes all the items needed to get to the drain and when he got to the IPDM, it turns out to be completely waterlogged. When the drain plugged up, it actually filled the entire battery compartment up with water high enough to get into the unit. ....
It was an aftermarket warranty.....This is the first G35 they had seen with this problem, but I was able to find a few instances of it with other folks by searching the net. It will probably never happen again after I get a replacement battery cover as it has been missing since I first bought the car and obviously could allow debris into the area.
So it seems as though there was no "crappy engineering to be expected from Nissan" after all faiz, just a bit of operator negligence by not keeping the cover in place for extended periods of time. (no offense OP, just sayin)

Time and time again, it's been proven that no amount of good engineering can overcome plain old negligence/ignorance, but just like I said, haters gonna hate.

IPDM failing due to operator error is just plain stupid and can be pointed to the fact it was not left in OEM form and modified somehow by the user. Now please explain why Nissan fancy engineering leads to IPDM failing for all these vehicles in stock form. Do I need to bring back the topic on window motors, AC radio controls, Rev-up motors, manual tranny cd001-008, compression rod bushing...do i need to go on.

To keep things fair though, we need to compare the quantity of similar TSB's released by other manufacturers. I'm certain that Nissan's amount of TSB's does not exceed those of other brands.
But I will agree that the mesh part of the windshield cowl, which sits above the battery lets rain water through into the battery compartment as I find drops of water between the battery terminals after each drive in the rain. I'm guessing it is designed for venting the battery compartment since the factory battery does release gasses as part of its normal charge/discharge cycles. I'm closing mine off so no water can get in at all since I run a sealed XS Power battery.
