Test drove 2008 G35s sedan 6 speed, and have some questions

Hello,

I posted the same thread on different site, but I think I can get more opinion here.

I test drove g35s sedan with sport and premium package, and I really liked it.
It's 2008 with 48k miles on it. One owner car. It was leased. The warranty has 9 month left. It's selling by an used dealer shop.
I have never owned Nissan or Infiniti, and I have some questions for you guys.

When I was test driving, I could hear some kind of rattle noise from the rear or middle of the car. It was only happened 1st and 2nd gear changing. It's a lot noticeable in 1st gear...while disengaging clutch and step on accel pedal. I think it's either from clutch or rear differential, but I am not sure. Do g35s have any known issues with noise?

I notice the vibration through the manual shift *** when it's idling. Is this normal for Infiniti?
I test drove BMW 330i 6 speed, and I didn't feel the vibration that much.
I think every cars are different...

Although it has the warranty, it does not come with maintenance records. I am thinking to do PPI before I buy it, but since it has the warranty, it's not necessary?

I believe sport package came with sport suspension and wheels, what about premium package? Did it come with Navi? or parking sensor? I didn't really check the radio or Navi system while I was test driving.

The price is $23000. Is this a good price?
I am thinking that even it has things to repair, I can take it to a dealer to get repaired for free under warranty, correct? Then it's hard to negotiate the price. Any advice on this?

If you guys have any other advice on me, please let me know.
Thank you.

well i bought mine this week which was an 07 g35S 6mt navi with 90k miles for 15,800. But I found out they screwed me so im getting all new clutch flywheel master and slave which will take me closer to 17k total. Yours is a year newer with much lower miles so i would say tell em you'll pay 20, hopefully you can bring em down to 21-22k.
Dont know much about the packages besides the fact that i think the 6 speed model comes with everything and then you could choose to have navigation or not. Someone else will be able to chim in on that subject im sure.

Besides browsing around here for general info, here's another great reference site:

(packages and options are listed toward the end)

I'd say definitely have is checked by a good mechanic, or if you have nowhere to go ask if they'll let you take it to infiniti for an inspection. Yeah our cars to like to make some weird noises, esp in the drivetrain.

The stick vibrating is normal, every stick (Honda prelude, accord, and nissan xterra) I've had does that to some degree.

The G35s 6MT has a very noisy / chatty power train. Its noise when changing gear, and noisy at idle, the shifter has some vibration ... its something that you learn to live with.

But mine has no noise coming from the differential, if that's your case, watch out on that.

Having existing factory warranty is good, but a good PPI is recommended on any used car. I would do it just for a piece of mind.

I think premium comes with the sunroof, and upgraded audio (Bose) and stuff. And then there's a navi package for navi, tech package for ICC and adaptive headlight, etc.

I have a spec sheet for 2008 G35, pm me your email and I can email it to you.

The only thing I say about the car is the tricky clutch, low idling (sometimes stalls, even after the TSB, maybe the TB needs to be cleaned) and chipping interior trims (which can be replaced under warranty)

The 6mt is notorious for having a very loud (and crappy sounding) throw-out bearing. Supposedly, it is normal and nothing to worry about, however this is usually heard at idle while sitting at a stop light. I think the sound you describe warrants being checked into, but it may also be normal noise that our cars tend to make.

The shifter vibration is typical, you may learn to appreciate it as engine feedback, I do. You will not feel this in a BMW (you also won't feel the same power in a 330ci).

Infiniti can pull up a record of maintenance if you have the VIN#, but its still good to have a mechanic check the car.

Sport package has quite a few differences. Tech package also adds a lot more features. We might be able to provide more info on its features if you have any pictures or a site link the car is listed (if it is).

Also, you have 9 months left on the bumper to bumper warranty but more time and miles left on the power-train warranty.

Thank you so much for all the replies.
If some noise is normal for 6MT, I am fine with it, but I will get PPI if I am going to buy it.
The car was really quiet when it was idling. No noise from trans area.

Do you guys recommend the extended warranty for G35?
I am a DIY guy and I can do most of maintenance myself, unless I have to lift the engine or drop the tranny....I know Japanese cars are reliable, and it seems like G35 doesn't really have major issues.

I found another G35S 6MT, but mileage is 72k miles. It's a bit higher than what I want, but the price is $18000 OBO.
How rare is G35S sedan with 6MT? If it's not that rare, I can wait till find the perfect one with the right price.

Thank you.

This may help: https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...nty-worth.html

I heard that less than 10% of V36 sedan are 6MT, don't know if that's true or not ...

Thank you for the link.
The extend warranty price doesn't seem that bad. I guess I will buy it

Wow 10%?? Um...then I guess I have to buy it when I can find one, if it's in good condition.

I have one more question guys.
The car still has bumper to bumper warranty. Does this mean I can take this car to an Infiniti dealer and get inspected? Then if something needs to be replaced, I get replaced for free?
My wife's mini gets free maintenance and repairs for 4 years.

Thank you

you can get the car inspected but it may not be free

and if the item is covered under warranty, then its just like any other warranty issue (free that is)

Ok, thank you for the replies.
I guess I can just buy the car and take to a dealer to do inspection, then get repaired by warranty if anything needs to be replaced.

umm yeah you want to do that BEFORE you buy the car. It could have been wrecked, and repaired badly.. warranty ain't gonna cover that. The dealer I had check mine said over 70-80% of g's sent to them for inspection have some kind of major issue, usually from poor repairs on major accidents. Just be aware of that.

Any reputable place will let you inspect it before signing.. if they won't there is something shady going on and walk away. Even the super shady nissan dealer I got mine from let me have it inspected, however they did bring their guy with while it was being done, since it was their car - I just paid the infiniti dealer for the inspection report and got the results.

For example:
after I bought mine, the windshield was leaking. I took it to the dealer, and they said someone replaced it and didn't seal it properly. Since it wasn't their windshield, it wasn't their problem, and I had to pay $ out of pocket for it to be remounted (or if it cracked while doing that another windshield).

Thank you.
