Slight Electrical Concern

Alright, today was going dandy. Car was running fun, but I noticed on my way back from selling an AMP to a guy, that my car would randomly switch stations on me. It would go up a station from say, 9 to 10 on XM, or it would go down a station. It did it once every 5 minutes and then by the time I got down, it would jump up about 3 stations, then bounce back down to about 1 above what I was at. Im like, freaking out wondering wth is going on. Called my dealer and asked them and it could be a software issue or something that they'd need to update??

On my way back i was stuck waiting for a train so i pounded the dash a little bit and noticed that it quit doing it. Now though, I looked closely at the screen and that like, the lines on the screen appear to not be steady. They are ever so slightly shaking and fading in and out (not terribly though)

Im not sure what this is. Has ANYONE ever seen issues like this before? I have 0 clue whats going on.

lol i had this happen to me as well. Listening to my sirius radio i noticed that it jumped a few stations up. Did it for a few days and after that it stopped. Hasn't happened ever since. Though i did remove the entire middle section and tooked out the radio assembly along with the screen to do some work in there.. Perhaps a connector was slighty loose causing the ghost changes lol. The world will never know. That issue with your screen could be that something got loose inside.

Mine did the same thing- Infiniti knows there is a problem with our radios and has come out with a fix.

Instead of paying $2000 for a new OE radio, Panasonic has made a fix which costs $800 installed.

Mine did the same thing- then it quit for a few months- then it started again worse then ever.

The factory radio is failing and will eventually die.

OUCH, $800 sounds painful. Since you've had this done, can you possibly post the part numbers involved or a copy of the invoice or something for those folks who may want to save some money by going the DIY route?

Yes, the radio is failing...at least mine eventually did.

As far as the part, it is the brain to the radio....I called Infiniti of Mission Viejo on Southern CA and talked to ...I think his name was Freddy in parts-

The replacement piece was around $400 plus a little under $400 in labor.....

They did not replace the actual face of the radio/ front of the center council with all the buttons, just the brain behind it.....

The new brain is made by Panasonic as a fix for our radios as I was told it is a common problem for our radios to fail.

Im on a business trip now, but when I get back Ill try and find the invoice with the part numbers.....

Im sure someone who has more time then myself could do the work themselves

FWIW, i experienced something like this back when the car was new. It was only that one instance, it hasn't come back since.

Incidentally, it was also on XM.

Yeah, a random glitch here or there is no reason to start swapping parts out. I'd definitely sit tight and see what, if anything, develops.
