PO420 stock converter failure at 60K miles- is this normal?

Just got a PO420 on my 07 Sedan..

As I work for a company that makes converters, I understand that convertters typically dont fail on their own and they usually fail due to being contaminated by oil, gas, or antifreeze

Im a little concerned that the stock converters would fail this early in the cars life as I stick to the exact maintenance schedule on the car and dont track/ race it- most of the time its driven pretty easy

Anyone else have any experiences?

Thanks

Reset the code and see if it comes back. It could also mean the O2 sensor is failing. A catalytic converter should last the life of the car unless there is something wrong with your engine, like running rich.

^^ Agreed, very often the cat is the victim of the O2 sensor. Just so the OP knows, the good news is you're covered under warranty for 8yr/80k miles on it.

For reference my 2008 G35 had both catalytic converters replaced last month (under warranty thankfully) due to hairline cracks causing a SES light. I did not get the code since it was under warranty. The Service Advisor said he had one other car in recently for the same thing.

I just took my 08 sedan in cuz i had a SES light and was coming up on my 60k. Service guy also tole me the my CATS were bad and replacing them. Makes me nervous with these cars. It seems like i have had my car in the shop a lot only for owning it for a year. Seat tracks replaced 2 times in 6 mo, sunroof, engine hoses, and much more. They did however give me a fully loaded m37x. really nice for $80k, but is this just a snap shot of the future of my car and how much its going to cost every 3 months? Not impressed at the moment.

Is it just me or are the M series not selling that well? I hardly see those on the road vs all the G's I see, or even bmw 5 and 7 series
