Headlight Flicker - Left Housing Unit
Hi All -
When I turn on my headlights, my driver side headlight flickers, then eventually goes out. I brought it into the dealership, and they said it's the left housing unit. However, Infiniti doesn't sell that part directly as you have to buy it with the control unit, so it's about $1400. They told me to look online to see if I could find the left housing unit for cheaper, I did find it for around $1000, but I wasn't sure if anyone has had any similar experience, or would know a good place to contact where I might be able to find this part at a reduced cost.

Maybe you can just get a ballast/ignitor off ebay, I don't think nissan/infiniti sells them separately for some reason. When under warranty when I had a funky headlight problem they just replaced the whole unit, seems overkill to me but that's all nissan gives them as a solution for it I guess.

These only cost $170 brand new, and Matsushita is the brand that is OEM in our cars. It's much cheaper than buying a whole new unit. In fact, these may be the newer generation of ballasts than the ones our cars have. I believe our cars has a Generation III Model of the ballast. It also comes with a one year warranty. I've changed out HID bulbs in my Infiniti and I can confirm the ballast is indeed Matsushita.
If you want a different brand- the one Lexus uses- go with the Denso Brand. They cost $165 brand new. It also comes with a one year warranty.

I can vouch from many reviewers and websites that theretrofitsource is a legitimate site that sells genuine products. You can visit HIDplanet forums for more information.
I wouldn't recommend getting them off ebay, unless the seller is reputable and will take back defective products. Also, the ballasts may be fake from a third party Chinese manufacturer. There are a lot of fake Philips HID kits and ballasts floating around ebay.

There is a sht ton of nissan/infiniti ballasts on there for cheap. You will have to remove the headlight though which is a pain imho. Make sure it is the ballast and not the bulb by switching the bulbs from left to right.

If it's flickering than going out, that means the voltage supplied to the bulb is not constant- which means there is an issue with the ballast. Again, I don't recommend getting a cheap set from Ebay. It could be fake/damaged and you'll be left with a defective ballast. I recommend going with a brand new one with the links I provided above. There are fake Philips ballasts all over Ebay, and we know those Chinese fakes never last as long as OEM parts when it comes to HID lighting.
