Rear tire width

Rear tire width
It’s finally time for some new tires. YAY…
Has anyone tried putting 285 or 295 rears on a 20 x 9.5 rim?
I'm currently running 275s on those rears, and the tires aren't quite as wide as the rim. It looks like there's more room. Any ideas? This change has less to do with traction or handling but more so to do with aesthetics and protection of the rims edge (it’s quite exposed with the 275s… compared to my fronts).
Thanks!!!

Sorry for the delayed post. I didn't remember what my offset was and couldn't find my documentation (and I wasn't going to whip out a ruler and start all kinds of calculations). Lucky me, I found my receipt from 07! YAY...
My fronts:
245/35/20 x8.5 w/offset-35
My current rears:
275/30/20 x9.5 w/offset-45
So does anyone think I can safely run 295s on the 9.5 rim?
Oh, and not rub with the 45 offset?
Lastly, would I have to go down to A lower profile... 25?
As always... Thanks for the help everyone!

Btw, a great site for tire plus size info. Includes comparisons of all tire specs. http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp

Tire manufacturers recommend a minimum of 10" wide rims to fit 295s.
That said, keep in mind that:
- Some tires run wider/narrower than others
- Some tires have lip protectors
- Others have squared, while others are rounded off at the edges
- If you just want to look wide, getting wider wheels is a better option
I run 9.5 +38 in the rears and could use a 15mm spacer to bring it further out. Granted i run 255's as well. You should be okay with your 9.5+45's with wider tires depending on drop and camber.
