You're kidding, right?

Both cars he's looking at are the newer bodies. Sedans are lighter than coupes and make exactly the same amount of power out of the box as the coupes, so why wouldn't you mod one?

I'd go for the 3.7 liter motors over the older 3.5, but I wouldn't get a motor with 120k on the odo. These new generation of VQ's all have their own problems. As for coupe or sedan, it's all personal preference although sedans are lighter than the coupes.

thanks guys! i forgot about TSBs too...so the v36 G35 sedan doesnt seem to have the oil problems right? thats the main reason why i ruled out the g35 coupes. i just dont want to deal with mechanical issues all over again...
once again, why not mod the sedan?

^^ The only reason I can think why anyone would say not to mod the sedan is because the HR motors and the newer VVEL, won't produce as much of an increase in HP/TQ with mods compared to what would be gained on the G35 coupes. Either way, modding will still get you a substantial increase in performance if you get it tuned along with aftermarket parts. It just costs an arm and a leg to gain an extra 20HP on the sedan. Still worth it in my opinion though, if you have the dough.

The VQ35HR in V36 G35 has variable valve timing?

I thought only the 3.7L has it.

I said the HR motors AND the VVEL, I didn't say the HR used VVEL. I just didn't know the G37's engine model off hand.

Guys, if my memory serves me correctly, the G35's VQ35HR motor does have variable valve timing on the exhaust side, but it wasn't until the G37's VQ37VHR motor came out that they added the VVEL technology, which is on the intake side too.

^^ Yep, that's right. I just went and looked up the info I remembered reading back when I bought the car and while it didn't mention the variable intake, it did mention that "the addition of standard variable exhaust cam timing (eCVTCS) ...", so apparently the variable function on the intake side was already there from the DE motors, but since it was carried over, it was not even mentioned there. Then, upon the G37 arrival, they replaced the variable actuation with the VVEL technology. Of course, that makes perfect sense now too, because I always kind of wondered how on earth Nissan squeezed that kind of power out of the HR motor without a variable intake.

I was in the market for an '08 G35 Sedan or '08 G37 Coupe. I loved both for different reasons, though driving dynamics were similar. I deliberated on which one to get for two days. Ultimately, I made my decision based on insurance rates. Obviously, rates vary based on the the person being insured.

For me, the Coupe would've been $45 more per month to insure ($540 more per year). I couldn't justify that kind of price differential especially when I factored in the similar performance of both versions.

I bought an '08 G35S Sedan and I've loved every minute of driving it. I live in the DC/MD/VA area so rates may be higher.

I'm just throwing it out there. Maybe it'll help you make your decision.

Yea I went with an 07X over the 37 coupe. I was thinkin awd, 2 extra doors would help a lot. Sedan looks very good when you tack on a few mods.
