Question V36 G35 sedan vs. 2008 G37 coupe?

Hey there! So, this is my first post on here. If I say something stupid or come off as a jacka** then I apologize
I just sold my e39 530i and I've been looking into getting into a G for some time now. I am curious to see what you all have to say about the two that I posted. Now, I have access to the G35s for about $15k-$16k with maybe 70k-85k miles. As for the G37, I found one online for $16k with 121k miles on it. I know that's a lot but I wouldn't say that I'm scared of mileage on a car. Oh, and both cars would be 6mt. My family has had Nissans for a while now so I know how reliable they are. And yes I know they are two fairly different cars. Just any help deciding between the two would help A LOT!!!!!

The g37's have the newer bodys and imo look better + its a 3.7L vs 3.5L, if you plan on doing mods to the car/dropping it ect i would go for the coupe. If you plan on staying stock i would go for sedan.

But i would never but a 2008 car with 100k+ miles on it that is just wayyy to much

Also look into what packages it has. navi and Bose system are definitely worth it.

VQ37 has variable value timing besides just bigger displacement.

The 2008 G37 coupe should have bigger brakes than G35S (V36) sedan. One thing I know is that the 19" stock rims on coupe are quite a bit heavier (unspunge weight) than the 2008 G35 sedan 18" Sports rim

I think the coupe also have folder down backseat while the sedan doesn't. trunk pass through only for the sedan

Per the choices you have, I would much rather go with the sedan cause you are getting a much lower mileage car with similar performance at about the same price. and serioulsy, there are a lot less 6MT sedan than coupe, as long as you don't mind having a more practical car with 4dr and 5 seat belts.

me personally won't sweat on 3.5L vs 3.7L engine. VQ35HQ has over 300hp, thats plenty in my book and already can get me in trouble in no time.

even with the "smaller" brake, the G35 Sports has 13" rotors and it works pretty good. But who wouldn't want better braking? (I wish I could say the same about hp, LOL)

Bigger brakes means heavier unspunge weight at four corner. I don't know how's that going to affact the handle, I would think better and more consistant braking under heavy load won't out weight the heavier weight.

I don't have the performance number for G35 sedan vs G37 coupe, but I don't do 0-60 race at every stop light neither.

The G37 has more of a solid interior, and I never experienced any rattles or squeaks when test driving a few. I'd still pick my 2nd gen sedan over the coupe any day of the week, but I have a bit of an idealistic mind-set and the coupe just didn't do it for me in practicality for everyday use and a potential family vehicle. I do agree though, that the G37 coupe, IMO, looks worlds better than the G35 coupe. And if the decision were between those two, I'd nab the G37 in a heartbeat, even with excessive mileage racked up.

Raise your budget to 20k and get a nice low mileage of either. If you are willing to travel to make the purchase you can get really good deals if you are patient and scour autotrader regularly.

Get an Autocheck subscription and run that...I am not opposed to buying wrecked, just be sure it is reflected in the price.

Coupe or sedan are both win...it is a matter of taste and lifestyle.

A used G37S coupe may be my next car in a couple of years...

This is somewhat of an odd choice comparison. SO MUCH depends on what matters to you, how you will use the vehicle, and how many people will you carry in the vehicle during the term of your ownership. I ridden in both quite a bit, and I've got to say I prefer the sedan. The coupe is just way too constrictive and claustrophobic for me as a daily driver, and that's as the driver. As a passenger, you can forget the (ahem) ... "back seat". Plus, driving at night, or in the rain, it's an absolute joke for visibility. Sure, it's fun to run through a canyon in it, but the sedan isn't half bad for that either, and it's so much more pleasant for the other 99% of my driving. Power is so nearly identical that if you race them side-by-side, it would come down to the driver. The BBK and the 19" wheels from the coupe are nice, but as was mentioned, the sedan's (Sport) gear work just as well unless you are literally on the track, and yes, there is quite a bit more UNSPRUNG weight (not 'unspunge' ) to those pieces on the coupe.

I love my 09 G37 Sedan, but our 07 G35 Sedan was almost as quick, barely noticeable difference. The coupe and sedan both look great IMO, but the sedan is much easier day to day if you need easy access to a back seat or need a bit more trunk room. Gotta agree w/ Rollo, 3-4 grand more would be money well spent, you may even find one w/ some warranty left. Sure the Infiniti/Nissan lineup is a reliable brand, but starting w/ 120k miles is a pretty tough way to start IMO.

Whatever model you end up with just be sure to check out the TSB site for Infiniti. this will list any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply to your model. just enter the model then the year, leave the last 2 boxes blank, this will list all TSBs for your year & model and you can see if any need to be applied to your specific vehicle.

Keep in mind the paint on these cars is quite fragile, if the previous owner has a clear bra installed that's a plus, the hood is very easily chipped.

I was looking at all sorts of cars before i bought my sedan, from s2k, m3's, even a miata!!! the sedan is easy to live with, I can put a blanket on seats and flop my mtb in the back to head out for a ride. even brought some fairly large speakers home, one in the trunk and one across back seats. no regrets with the sedan here. And yes the 6mt is the way to go, and they are quite rare. back when i was looking there were only about 6 i could find across north america!!
