reading the tranny dipstick correctly
#16
Ahhh so when I checked it was definitely too hot since I was doing 80+ on the highway. Ill check tomorrow after I come back from gym, since its 5 min away.
Any idea why as to it felt like my car was downshifting less aggressively than it usually does? The only thing I can think of was lately Ive been doing a lot of bumper to bumper city driving, and maybe the throttle or tranny shifting response adapted to my style of driving?

I found this while googling...
http://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&source=mog&hl=en&gl=us&client=ms-android-verizon&tab=wi&q=infiniti%20G35%20and%20reading%20transmission%20fluid%20dipstick&sa=N&biw=360&bih=559#i=0
The only thing that's different about our dipsticks is that on the back it does not say cold..
I tried measuring it today after 5 minutes of driving and letting the car sit for 10 minutes... it still comes up with the fluid all over the dipstick, and its no use.. still see fluid by the ripple at the top. Wtf..

Hey guys, when u guys check ur transmission, does the stick come out coated like mine also? I wipe and put it back in, and everytime its the same... I even did it after the car sat off for 3 hrs... no different result. Thinking maybe its overfilled, but I had the dealer tell me during my last oil change its fine. Being that the dealer is so incompetent, I wanted to make sure on my own.

If its 90F out then turn her on cycle park to drive and back then check a few times to get an accurate average. Does the V36 has cold markings? The Two notches below the hot crosshatched area.
If its cooler where you live let it idle for a min or two. This is a cold mesurment so it should not be in the hot range. If its a tad over it shouldn't present a problem

It does have the two notches, but usually on other Nissan's on the back of the hot it shows "cold"... on my 08 35x doesn't have cold written on it... just the notches below hot. Some have pointed out it has to be done hot only though. I don't get why on hell its such a bitch to check it...

I dont personally have the v36 AT but iv been told that it only has hot markings which are the two marks under HOT... correct me if im wrong.
i have however check fluid level on my FX without much issue with car running and warm, though the stick does have some fluid splashes near the top you can easily get the reading by looking at the thick fluid formation between the notches, key is to keep it pointing down at an angle when checking
