Well if you can find a good show to do it for you it would only be 350. I had a hit and run twice already.

That damage isn't that bad...it happened to me too while someone was parallel parking behind me. Never caught the guy, but the bumper repaint is pretty cheap.

Definitely looks easily fixable. That's a bummer though that you had that happen to you... People these days!

Does anyone think it's best to report to the police and have the insurance take care of it?

Depends on the extent of the damage and his deductible. The insurance rates might increase if you report it. Let's say the damage costs $1000 and his deductible is $500. That means he either pays $1000 now and not worry about his insurance rates increasing next year, or go through insurance and have them hike his rates for the next couple of years.

If the cost of repair is less than his deductible, then there's no point.

How is that so? Doesn't this count as accident/vandalism? The person is not at fault.

faaak sorry to see this man... I got backed into tonight and felt sorry for the lady cuz she was so scared so I just shook her hand and told her to have a good night lol. I saw some bumpers on ebay that weren't badly priced that you may be able to just get repainted?

It doesn't matter for the insurance company. As long as you've been involved in an accident, you are deemed "at risk" regardless of fault or not. As long as your insurance company has to pay out over around $1k, they will increase your rates unless you have accident forgiveness or something similar. Some states even have the "no fault" policy.

That's why the best thing to do when there's an accident when you're not at fault is to not even contact your own insurance company. You just contact the other person's and they'll take care of you. You don't want your insurance company to know you've been in an accident.

Here's an article to explain it better.
http://www.carinsurance.org/2010/08/...surance-rates/

Basically, the problem is just whenever your insurance company has to pay out for the damages now. If the other person is deemed as fault and your insurance company doesn't pay out, your rates won't increase.

A couple guys here said 'get it repainted' or 'that's easily repaired'. Isn't it cracked pretty bad at the headlight? I don't think you want to try fixing that.
That Sport bumper that G3065 linked you to looks like a great bargain.

Yeah, but you can still repair small cracks...it's called epoxy and then having the body shop sand it down to be smooth again...Epoxy is cheap, but the labor isn't. It's still better to have it repaired. Buying a used bumper requires it to be repainted again, even if it is the same color. Every car's paint doesn't match exactly the same with each other, even though it's the "same" color code. Temperature, UV exposure, environment all affect paint coloration, so his black might not be the same as the used bumper.

What can't be repaired is if the bumper is cracked at a part where there are screws attached in, since that compromises the structural integrity...
