Does the AT upshift automatically once it reaches redline?

^ it does actually from what i remember no bouncing of the rpm from the one time i tried it long time back and it kept going and then cut off around 7.8ish which would be the 'limiter' kicking in for a second before i could start going again.

^^ Hmmm, that's odd kool. I recall when I took her out for a drift even at a local track, she was happily bouncing off the limiter as long as I kept my foot in it (or at least until I got a better feel for one of the turns and was comfortable upshifting for it). It's noisy to be sure, but she didn't seem to mind it a bit; that VQ was built to rev like a fiend.

You sound more sure than me so i will concede rather than go out and test it for myself

Only explanation i can think of for what i experienced is that the rpm gauge reads almost couple hundred rpms higher than actual, cause i went up to about 7800rpm before shifting with no cut off given 7600 is the redline...

Thanks.
It'll bounce like no tomorrow. Until i got a hang of it, this happened frequently on the track. That was then. Now, i sometimes do it just for fun. But, knowing the car more, i can anticipate and avoid it easier.

Seriously man, other than your last phrase, does any of the other comments really answer his question, or are you just trying to stir up a debate?

Hahaha I am not trying to stir up a debate, I have the 5AT, every day I wish I could have gotten a stick with AWD. But its your choice and what ever choice you make will be good because lets face it, its a G

And I can't bounce mine off in my car, maybe its different for other people , I know like if it take it up in tiptronic and it reachs and i don't shift up, the engine like cuts out untill 600 under redline. I barely ever do it, its been once or twice it didn't take the shift when it pushed the stick but I can anticipate like you said where it will catch so its not a problem

Actually both fuel cut and ignition retard cause the needle to bounce. However a fuel cut hits harder and the needle bounces faster and more aggressively. Even with a 6MT, the way the stock tune is designed, fuel cut is set at some 200rpm after ignition retard. Assuming the soft limiter is at 7600rpm, fuel cut is at 7800rpm and it's only there as a precautionary measure in case ignition retard fails. Otherwise you'll rev the engine to the moon if it does fail and kaboom. Since fuel cut is set at 7800rpm you'll never actually hit it (and shouldn't) since you'll hit the soft limiter first. With the soft limiter the needle won't bounce as hard, especially with stock exhaust, intake, etc.

In my vid below I'm actually hitting the fuel cut, which sound almost like spark cut, just without all the popping noises and flames >
(I was tuning the ECU and set the soft and hard limiter at the same RPM, don't recommend that lol)
