Passenger airbag light

Having a very intermittent issue with my passenger airbag light coming on (the one at the bottom of the center stack under the radio/hvac controls, etc). It's on an 08 sedan. Very occasionally when my wife (or anyone) is in the car the light will come on that the passenger airbag is disabled. The car is still under warranty, but this will be the 4th time I've taken it back to the dealer for this issue and every time they say it's fixed but obviously it isn't. They've replaced the airbag light itself, the entire wiring harness behind the dash, and the airbag control module twice (perhaps other parts I'm neglecting here). The light probably only comes on maybe once out of every 15 to 20 times you start the car with a passenger.

Edit: I've read from another thread here: https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...bag-light.html that there are issues if the passenger is around 100 pounds(ish). That isn't an issue in this case - all passengers should be in the "safe" zone as far as weight goes...man I hope my wife doesn't read this thread.

Has anyone had any similar issues?

I'm going to call the dealer in the morning and ask for another loaner, but my biggest concern of all is that they can't seem to validate that it's fixed so they send me on my way to have my family check to see if the safety systems are working. More than once I've had to show them how to replicate the problem (simply start the car with someone in the passenger seat), but after more than 6 weeks total of my car being in the shop and still having the same issues I'm a little concerned with their ability to diagnose the problem... /rant

This is common with 08... mine had it too. There was no fix, since in my case it wasn't defective.

My ******* ex gf was sitting on the chair at an extremely reclined angle, thus shifting her center of gravity so that her weight wasn't fully pushing down, and being below 100 lbs to disable it. When she moved her chair up to a little less than 90 degrees and sat like a normal human being, full weight of her body pressed down on the sensor and the light went out.

So needless to say, make sure ur passengers are sitting properly to test it out. There are cases of defect as well as a TSB fix on this issue... if dealer knows of the TSB and tested it, then the way ur wife is sitting.

Funny thing is, if my ex sits on the chair nowadays I can bet the farm there won't be any more issues of the air bag being disabled for being light weight... lololol

There was a recall 12-04-2008. Get it checked out by your dealer ASAP.

ITB08-045d Safety Recall Campaign

2007 – 2008 VARIOUS INFINITI MODELS; PASSENGER AIR BAG VOLUNTARY RECALL CAMPAIGN OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM (OCS)
Infiniti is conducting a Voluntary Recall Campaign to inspect the Occupant Classification System (OCS) Varistor located in the front passenger seat cushion. A special tool will be used for the inspection. If the inspection results are OK, no further action is necessary. If the special tool indicates an OCS Varistor issue, the seat cushion assembly will be replaced. We anticipate that less than 1% of the affected vehicles will require seat cushion replacement.
