Is my overdrive working
Is my overdrive working
For some reason it seems like my RPM are rather high at highway cruising speeds.
I never really paid attention when I first got my G, so maybe I am imagining it.
Hopefully the leading factor is that the glass packs are blowing out. (I removed the factory mufflers).
I am near the 3K rpm @80mph.
What rpm/mph are you guys getting?
Thanks

Yes, I figured as much since you referred to your overdrive, but the rpms at final drive are fairly similar between the 5AT and the 6MT.
Here's a relevant link (and sub-link) for you; should have all you need to know:

I have 5at and I'm at exactly 3k @ 80mph...It gets kind of annoying on long drives and now that I had a 7at 2012 loaner it makes me super jealous cause it's around 2k @ 80 I think...

Just checked it this morning. Looks like at 3k RPM, I'm doing 78mph.
As for exhaust. I have one of those Top Speed group buy dealeos. It's pretty quiet cruising on the highway going 80ish.

I am doing 75mph at 3K.
I don't think we have an overdrive. Seriously. All my cars, if I gave it throttle it would go out of overdrive and back when I ease off the throttle.
I love my G, but dam this car. I am glad I bought used.

I don't quite understand all the fuss about the 3K rpm. If you consider the torque band of the engine, and the fact that it has headroom all the way to 7500, it's a very nice place to be. You might pick up a bit of extra fuel economy by dropping down, but then as soon as you wanted to accelerate any, or climb a grade, you'd be constantly downshifting to get back into power which would get pretty annoying too.
The HR engine is definably a higher revving engine, but there's plenty of cruising power at low RPM.
Gas mileage is a major concern when cruising highway speeds.
Downshifting is not a concern, I am not driving in the mountains...that's why I have a Jeep, which has overdrive.
