Hello! I have G35x 2007 sedan and it's time to replace my steering rack (it is wet from the both sides). As I'm out of warranty I decided to try a steering rack from G35xS (it has the different partnumber - 49001-JK61B and is more expensive) - I beleive it should be more "short" and "sporty", as I remember advertisement about the sport package on the AWD.
How do you think, is it a good idea?
Anyone compared steering feel on a G35x and G35xS?

I would think, ( and try and ask a dealer) that almost ALL, X cars would have the same rack, and also the same ratio, at least the 07's and 08's,, As far as steering "feel" between xS and regular X, the stock xs has 18in. (225/50/18 tires and wheels, where as you know our stock 07's has 225/55/17's So the slightly sportier "feel" is from the lower aspect ratio tires on the 18's imo.....
Well, they have different partnumbers and the rack from xS costs 300$ more.

That is definitely curious. If you look at the specs for the '08 modelsOriginally Posted by harp00n

( http://infinitihelp.com/models/2008/...ifications.php ) , they definitely suggest that only the RWD models have unique steering with the Sport tuning (besides the 4WAS cars). The specs for the '07 models wasn't as clear, and wasn't formatted the same way, so it didn't show decisively, but I didn't think there was a difference between the 07 and 08 years in that regard. It would be interesting to ask the parts people which model years either rack applies to; are they just for the 07 years, or do they work for both 07 and 08?
Here's the local online catalog made from Nissan FAST:

And here are the search pages from the infinitipartsusa site for these partnumbers:

http://www.InfinitiPartsUSA.com/Sear...-JK61B&Submit=
So the steering rack on xS is definitely different, but how does it feel comparing to the base x model?

I think you need some 'real' help from a factory parts guy who's also an enthusiast. Maybe one of the vendors here (Phil or Rick, etc.) What I'm seeing is that the Sport rack was for the G37XS model, not any G35 models ('07 and 08), so it may well be unique, but will it be compatible with your year . . . IDK.
If you look at the specs for the 09 G37X w/Sport, you can see it lists differently than either the 07 or 08 specs:
http://infinitihelp.com/models/2009/...ifications.php
Also, does that Nissan chart you gave apply directly to the US models?
One last thing, some thoughts to consider: even if you can buy it and it fits your car, does it require different (length or thread) tie rods to properly connect to it, or differently configured hydraulic lines to connect to the rack??? Not suggesting it's a bad idea, just that when blazing the trail for swapping parts, there's often more to it than meets the eye. If you figure it all out, it will be great info for others who may follow your path.

Corrected the last link (search of 49001-JK61B).
Well, it's obvious that G35x with the sport package (made from 08/2007) had the different partnumber for the steering rack (49001-JK61B), while ordinary G35x had another (49001-JK61A). And the same applies to the 2009 AWD G37 - G37x '09 had the 49001-JK61A, G37xS '09 - 49001-JK61B. Then they revised the rack for the 2010 model year, but tendency remained - G37x '10 had the 49001-JK64A, G37xS '10 - 49001-JK64B.
And yes, it's the catalog for US-spec cars.

IDK man, I'm not entirely sure what's up with that chart. Look at the forth entry down the chart. It shows a G35X, with no mention of Sport, yet it has the "B" part number too !?! Originally Posted by harp00n

And what's that asterisk and the "speccode:" about? Sorry, I can't read Russian or whatever that is chart is written in.
