plasti dip opinions appreciated

I'm gonna go shopping for plasti dip supplies tomorrow, but after looking at multiple pics here I am still undecided whether or not I want to use clear coat on top of the plasti dip or leave it as is.

What do u guys prefer? Does it look better with clear coat applied or just bare PD? All the pics I've seen so far seems like PD by it self has a lil gloss to it...

My car is silver

I just used pd on my lugs and caps and I prefer the flat look. If you want gloss use clear.

The only downside is if you don't clear coat it its stays kinda tacky when its hot outside and stuff sticks to it but it washes right back off so its really not a big deal to me. I've done my grille and all my window trim as well as my buddy's silverado grill and wheels

I personally think the plastidip with the plastidip glossifier looks pretty good. Not really glossy per se but a satin finish.

I like the flat look its really a matter of personal preference, just paint whatever your painting without clear coat first if you like it after it dries leave it. If you feel its too flat and you want a little shine/gloss to it, clear coat away!

If you put on clear it'll make removal very difficult and will show uneven surface more. stick to just dip.

I've plastidipped my grille, emblems and the rear diffuser area. I have used each one before: regular plastidip by itself, plastidip and glossifier, as well as plastidip and clear coat. I started with regular dip and it was just flat black, so I decided to buy the glossifier. It was much harder to apply than plastidip because it was much thinner and it created runs. It wasn't even that glossy at all. Currently I'm using plastidip with acrylic clear coat. 2-3 Coats of clear will really help the shine, I also noticed the surface not being as textured and it is easier to clean. Before, If I didn't dry my grille after washing, it would get waterspots everywhere. Now with the clear coat, I don't even touch my grille and it looks good.

Do u think the shine from clear coat is better than with a metallic paint?

I have dipped just about everything under the su. If you clear coat the dip, it makes it a little harder to get off. It does not peel off in one sheet anymore. Just so you know.

Done a few plasti-dip projects, IMO it's just better to paint it the finish you want and call it a day. I DO like plasti-dip to see how a black trim piece will look on your car, but not for the long term, just my 2cs

From the pics I've seen I like the subtle gloss shine.... but can't tell if that was done with clear coat or if it's bare plastidip

Paint by itself chips and cracks easily if you do not properly prep the area its being applied to. PlastiDip takes paint very well and is much easier to remove if you don't like the final product. It does become slightly harder to remove with paint and/or clear on it but it is much easier than trying to strip cured paint from a surface. As far as the GLOSSY look, that's what I prefer as well. So I applied a black pearl then a clear coat. The regular Plasti look is a very faded, dirty looking black by itself. Not really a good look to me.
